This is probably a suggestion for improvement for MSTS 2.0, but I'm missing it if it's available in the RE now…Is there a way to identify a used track section in the RE without highlighting it and right clicking for the properties? I haven't reached the level of being able to tell which section is which by just looking at it yet. A tooltip stating the track section name when just moving the mouse over a track section would be really helpful. I am very leery about selecting and unselecting track sections unnecessarily. Especially when every time I do it, my hard drive churns briefly. Thanks for your time! - Andrew

RE: What Track Section is That?
I'm still new to MSTS, but I have seen a Track Tutorial on some site with name Steam4me (don't have exact address/try searching MSTS sites. It gave a master list of track sections in Excel format. May help you.Piano

RE: What Track Section is That?
Oh, I have a list of all track sections and their names from Michael Vone's Route Building Guide. That's no problem. I also have a list of all XTrack sections too. My problem is that when I'm first putting together track, I do it in a test route to see how it fits and whether I can get trains to run over what I created. There's a lot of trial and error and placing and deleting of track until I get what I want. I don't like to do all that in my "official" route. Once it works, then I build the exact same layout in my official route without all the deleting and cursing that goes on while I'm testing. To do that, though, I have to go into my test route and highlight, right-click, properties and copy down what sections I finally used to get the thing to come out.How 'bout a utility that makes a diagram or map of a route like in the activity editor and labels each section of track used? Before you say it - I know, I know! Build it yourself! - Andrew

If you are doing this in a test mode and only using a limited amount of track (and no other 'stuff', you can open up the world tile that the track is resting on and see all there is to know about the track. It will give you the file name, the position of the origin, the direction it goes, the angle it sits at etcetcetc. And the pieces are assigned a sequence number based upon the sequence you lay them down. The dynamic track tells you about each of the five parts to the track as well.Martyn T. Griffin griffinmt@mindspring.com
