Hi. I just reainstalled MSTS, and the route I'm building has no terrain texture any more - it's all white.I've reinstalled from my last two backups, to no avail, which leads me to suspect something has changed within MSTS somewhere.I've tried a number of searches on this forum, and at UKTrainsim, to no avail. Does anyone have an answer?I'd hate to have to restart (again), although it is good practice, and I'm getting faster at track laying every time! Thanks in advance for the help,Mike

If you originally ran stuffit or ezstuff to copy over the default scenery files and textures, you may need to do it again. Also, if you have a backup of entire MSTS path, you might want to restore that and then restore your route backup again.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 3

RE: Missing terrtex

Frequently that's missing or corrupted files in the TD folder.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 4Sometimes that can be fixed by opening the geo extractor, select route, load quad tree, save quad tree, and exit. Updating the route editor start tile might work too if the start tile got shifted way outside the route boundaries somehow, but as long as you're in there you can check the populated state of the tiles and generally look at all the stuff. Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 5If all the scenery objects are still in place, it might also work to regenerate the tiles, but I suspect you might lose all the hills & valleys and end up with flat terrain again.

RE: Missing terrtex

I thought it might be something like that - I loaded up the quad tree in RGE ;ast night and lot seems to have moved up to the Settle & Carlisle Quad tree. What files do I need to backup/restore to get the quad tree out?ConfusedMike

RE: Missing terrtex

Now that's wierd, how far away from the S&C was your route? As far as I know, the \TD files are the only ones that have the quad tree in them, but the RE start tile is in the RouteName.trk file.
When a new route is extracted a number of root files are generated, and adding things in the route editor creates a bunch of new ones. We all know RDB and RIT are for the roads, TDB, TIT, and tsection.dat are for the tracks, but I'm comparing a newly extracted route with PO&N6 now, and I see two more root files - lo_td_idx.dat and td_idx.dat, which sound like they might have something to do with it. The td_idx.dat file in the root is dated 5/7/01, indicating it's a default KUJU file, but opening it in wordpad it's identical to the td_idx.dat in the \TD folder. How or why it migrated into the root folder is a mystery, and the lo_td_idx.dat wasn't in PO&N4 or any previous version, it first appears in the root in PO&N5. The default routes don't have either file in the root, only in the TD folder. If copying the \TD folder from one of your backups don't work, the only thing I can think of is to re-extract, or extract a new route in the same tiles and steal the \Td folder out of that.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 6
First, go to the extreme Northwest corner (geo extractor tiles selection works from upper left to lower right) of your route, write down the tile X and tile Z numbers. Then go to the extreme Southeast corner, write down those numbers.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 7
Open the geo extractor, go thru all the steps to create a new route using the same tiles.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 8
Delete the Td folder from the old route, and you may have to get rid of those lo_td_idx.dat and td_idx.dat files too, if they're present. Copy the \Td folder from the new route, paste it into the corrupted route.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 9
After checking that you got all the terrain back, delete the new temp route that you stole the \Td folder from.
