I'm making an Orange Line for MSTS. If I have enough
time, I'll probably put Abacus' Roundhouse L1 route in it.
The Orange Line goes from the Loop to Midway Airport, southwest of Chicago. As I live there, I can do some first-person survey work.
I don't know when I'll get done, since this is my first route. It might take me awhile.
Any suggestions or opinions are welcomed.Thanks.

RE: Orange Line

I do have one suggestion. I would attempt a smaller, simpler, route for the first go at it.
RE is not a walk in the park.

RE: Orange Line

Abucus don't actually own the L1 route, they're merely distributors for it. If you look at the L1 route in the file library here, I'm pretty sure it's a later version. Look for posts in this forum by Ccyko, the author of the Chicago Elevated, he's already halfway into L2, (or is it L3?), and you may want to join forces with him. I live North of you, near Laramie and Lake (AKA Green Line) on the West Side, jwarde@ameritech.net. I've been toying with the idea of a Chicago area route developers club for a while now, but in spite of being the railroad crossroads of the known universe, there ain't very many trainfans in Chi-town!

That is to say, I live in the 'burbs, Barrington, to be specific. But enough about me. I'll have to check on the L1 route before I hit the hay. I'll try to contact him.

RE: Orange Line

Barrington?! Closer to O'Hare than you are to Midway! Hee-hee, that's OK, Chris lives in Memphis, got hooked on the Chicago Elevated when he came up here to meet his girlfriend's parents, and comes back every now and then just to ride the EL. You'll like him, helluva guy. The L1 route don't look like much scenery wise, but that's cuz of the lack of objects resembling anything on the route. Chris has been spending most of his time with TSM making structures, so the next version will be a lot more realistic. Running into some serious overload problems tho, you try to do a city route and you get real familiar with the object-count-per-tile limit! Check out the NNJ route for an urban route that really pushes the limits.

Well, I work in the Loop, and I ride the L quite frequently(just not from O'Hare).

That scenery is great, especially the bungalow-style houses.

RE: Orange Line

Yeah, come to think of it, those bungalows don't look like any of the default objects, Chris. You make those yourself, or are they available for download somewhere?
Off topic, when are you coming back to Chicago again? We oughtta get a party together, maybe charter one of those party train El rides!

Two more questions.
1. Is that the Orange Line? No offense, but because it's in MSTS, you really can't tell(at least from that pic). If it is, and you need help, you got it. If it is, and you don't need the help, than I guess I better do the O'Hare line(easier to ride anyway). If it's not the Orange, than the O'hare is my second project.
And 2. Are the textures for the CTA livery(hate the word livery, it sounds so British, but the only synonym is paint scheme) in the library?

RE: Orange Line

I'm actually hoping to again finish the entire system. The last version of L1 had all the mainline trackwork for the 'L' included in it, though not much scenery. What I have Done now is as follows...Red Line... Division-Cermak(Chinatown)
Orange Line... Roosevelt-(approx.)Cermak
Green Line... Roosevelt-Cermak
representative loop trackage (no stations/no junctions)I would welcome any help, if you would like we could team up to do the project. If you'd like to work together, email me, my email address is found in the L1 & L2 downloads. As far as a return trip, it will probably be early fall some time. I wasn't wanting to come back in July, but it wasn't my choice. I still need those pictures I came for in May. I'm wasting my camera, but I think I need to talk to a lawyer before getting those pictures.-Chris

RE: Orange Line

I think it's a good idea, but we'd have to have a decent sized group and pitch in per head.Though, how long would you have use of the train, and could we have any type, on any day, and go anywhere?-Chris
