RE: Dummy consists and tracks vs loose consists

loose consists will give you a performance hit. This is due to the sim caculating the physics of the cars even though they are standing still. Doesn't make sense, but then this is MSTS.Kevin Arceneaux

RE: Dummy consists and tracks vs loose consists

A dummy consist is only a secenery object using the ace, s and sd files and must be placed in the Route Editor.Kevin Arceneaux

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but the only way to learn is to ask....is that taking, say a boxcar from the trains folder, and just locating the .S and SD files to ROUTEFOLDER/SHAPES, the .ACE files to ROUTEFOLDER/Textures, and creating an entry to the .ref file? If it's that easy, then I am going to slap myself in the forehead really hard for being dumb, unless someone here wants to do it for me

RE: Dummy consists and tracks vs loose consists

If you make them dummy consists, you can then add extra textures like covering them in snow just like any other static object.Gives it a bit more authenticity, you can also add a bit of graffitti to old goods wagons left in sidings too long.Mike.

You mean like more than 30 minutes?! Also, the cars don't have to be old to be graffiti targets.Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 13

RE: Dummy consists and tracks vs loose consists

As noted in another response you simply take the cars or locomotives from the trainset file. Use the SD, S, Ace files to create a "dummy" car or loco. Add a reference entry to your REF file and then place it as you would any other static object in the route editor. Its fun to have "populated" yard trackage without the frame hits.

Has anyone thought of working on a "package" deal that would add a few heavily populated yards for visual impact ?? For those of us who are still in "explore" mode....
