Marias Pass 3.0 locks up my PC so bad that I must shut down completely and do a cold start.Okay, I've searched the threads, and except for several messages related to the beta version, I don't find this problem or a solution to the problem I'm having. The messages related to this problem seemed to suggest that beta-MP3 must be loaded before the MSTS patch. Is this true for the current version, which I downloaded two days ago? I followed the directions for installation, including deletion of the four folders and trk file, and all went well. When I start MSTS all routes work as usual except Marias Pass 3.0, which appears on the list as advertised, but locks up the machine. What am I missing?

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

If you could post a little more detail, such as your system specs and also when is MP3 locking up your system, when loading an activity, while running an activity, etc. That would help pin down possible problems.Ken

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Try downloading Route Control if you dont have it and click manage and then do a check up, it might be that something is missing, an activity, service, consist, etc... this may be far from the mark, but its worth a shot, I did that immediately after installing it and deleted everything that Route Control told me was missing or that "local.srv needs blah.con" and so I delected local.srv lol I didn't like having to go hunt up all the consists and such...

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Yeah, unless you got a corrupted download, that's a puzzler. "beta-MP3 must be loaded before the MSTS patch" is probably a wrong opinion, I studied the patch extensively, installed MP3 after the patch, and there's nothing in the MSTS update1 patch that would affect MP3. You may need to download the route again.

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I appreciate the replies. The program behaves normally when I select "Drive a Train". When picking a route, all of the standard MSTS routes work as usual, but picking the MP3 route locks the PC. When a standards activity is edited from USA2, it is saved (not my choice) in MP3, and even if I move it to USA2, choosing that route locks the PC.Maybe it's time to download the route again -- don't know when I'll be able to do it though.

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Is "Route Control" available on RailServe? I have given up trying to get into the downloads on this site. At one time I was getting several messages about missing consists, but I think I have overcome that issue. Is there a download that will help with locos as well? I have downloaded several which don't work and cause a p[rogram crash.

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Jim - Doesn't it sound like he is missing one or more shape files? He doesn't mention an error message (if he got one and didn't tell us, shame on him). Here's a guess: We know WinXP has a nasty habit of skipping files to be copied. I haven't had it happen yet with the half dozen or more routes I've installd on my new XP rig. But I have had it happen with a loco installation - some of the files simply were not copied. That's what it sounds like to me: WinXP or Win98, wouldn't make that much difference though it probably happens easier in XP. Assuming its an exe package, I would go for doing a dummy installation in an out of the way folder. I would take the .bat file out of there, take the miscreant out of TS folder, do a clean install and then put the .bat file into the route folder and run it again. Might work, might not. What you think? Also: Nobody has mentioned mprofile.exe ... hmmmm?Bing

Forgot to mention: One of my golden oldies utils is a little dandy called "Treeprint". Why don't we be nice and offer to send the fellow a directory printout of a complete and properly functioning Marias3 installaiton. That wayk he could check to see if he is missing files - ???Bing

LAST EDITED ON Jul-13-02 AT 04:33 PM (EDT)

Another thought - are you using the newest MP3 activities? If you try to use the ones included in the route download you will have problems. The updated activities for MP3 are here in the file library. I don't remember the actual file name but do a search on MP3 in the freight activities and you should be able to locate it. I would try that before downloading and installing the route again. If you have trouble finding the file, e-mail me here and I will sent it to you.Ken

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I downloaded the Marias Pass Ver 3.0 followed directions.
It appears in the route selection and can run the default explore. However, in the Activity Editor, the route Marias Pass 3 is not listed. I loaded the Activities into the route and when I select one, "Send to Micosoft" Message appears. Any solutions? Thanks!

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Sometimes it is necessary to "bite the bullet", so to speak. If you have run mprofile.exe and it had no effect (my guess is it won't, but with MS products one never knows) - perhaps it is time to consider uninstalling TS, scrubbing the registry and doing a clean reinstall of TS. I would not recommend reinstalling over the present copy of TS - conceivably it could make things worse. One of the nasty little traps in Win98 and XP is the MRU business. Without getting into it, if for instance you removed a file from a directory, put it somewhere else, then moved it back to the original folder, you could have a real mess on your hands. Not always - just maybe - and there is more to it than just this. Before the screaming about not fooling with the registry starts, let it be known that sometimes the only way to correct a bad situation such as you have is to uninstall the app. That is a start, but the reg needs cleaning out - there are apps to do this, or you can use reg edit to hunt down the TS entries and remove them. If you don't - there is a fair chance that even complete uninstall and "clean" reinstall won't work. But, you could try it first and see what happens if you don't want to fool with the reg. Before I got used to "the TS way", I messed up the TS installation so badly that twice I had to do the above. I would not take a chance with any of the non-default routes, I would reinstall each of them fresh, after TS reinstallation. I think it is still possible some of the Marias3 files didn't get copied - certainly you followed directions. But are you sure the OS and TS did the same? Are you absolutely certain every file that ought to have been copied into the MP3 folder was indeed copied? If so, then uninstall TS and reinstall fresh is the only way out that I know of. Bing

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I haven't looked at it in quite a while, I guess I'm gonna have to download MP3 and install it again to see exactly how it was done. One of the biggest problems with the sim and the editors is the fact that, other than TSunpack and the route editor start tile in the geo extractor, everything completely ignores folder names, and just looks for the first file it finds with the matching RouteName.trk reference.
So unless MP3 was cloned to be an actual seperate route from USA2, having USA2 installed at the same time will confuse the activity editor, and if it has a choice it will invariably save to the wrong folder. I'll hunt up Bob's email addy and shoot him a heads up on this, maybe he'll have some insights.

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

The basic problem is corrected by not trying to convert activities created by the default US2 by reinstalling the activity into Marias 3.
The only way to get the earlier activities to work is through the Activity Editor creating new Path files. With all the activities present, it is a long tideous process doing them all. In the future, since there are a number of people that don't have or have removed Marias3, it has to be stated within the zip file of new activities, what version of the route the activity was created to make sure the activity is installed in the proper route.

Thank You!scand

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Thanks for all the replies. Basis the discussion, I think I'll leave MP3 alone until the bugs are gone.I tried uninstalling MSTS, but the uninstaller would not work -- no error message. I tried reinstalling, and the same MP3 problems remained, i.e. lock up and activity crashes. I tried deleting MP3 files first, then reinstalling, and the same problems remained -- must have been modifications to other folders. Then I deleted (not uninstall, since it would not work) everything MSTS that I could find, reinstalled, and all was back to "normal". Added the MSTS patch, added the LTV add on, added the regional add on, added the engine enhancements down load. Everything works as "normal". Put back in the MP3 file, and yuch. Don't understand what it is doing, maybe it's the MSTS directory choice problem, but I am tired of deleting and reinstalling MSTS.BTW, I also got Route Control, full version, and used it to check it all, and aside from one missing consist nothing came up. Can one missing consist cause all this? I doubt it.Also, there were no error messages when MP3 was present and the PC locked up. I think it locked before any could generate. I did get error messages when trying to use certain Auran add on locos, but that was after I purged MP3 from the PC. Route control found nothing wrong with these either. I have had even worse luck with loco down loads, but I find that most freight car down loads work fine. Thanks again. I'll be watching for an improved MP3!

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

This sounds ugly! The install procedure for MP3 was done before we had these nice installation utilities available, so it is essentially a drag and drop on top of an UNMODIFIED copy of USA2. You must delete the USA2.TRK file from the Marias3 directory by hand. Also, when you drag the folder containing the MP3 modifications onto the route directory, you must drag it to ROUTE, not to the new Marias3 directory under ROUTE. Lots of people make that mistake. I did it myself! It sounds to me more like something in the activities area. The correct activites file is called MP30ACT2.zip. And I'm assuming you download(ed) both the activities and the route from Train-Sim, not some other download site as I have no control over what is posted on those. But, thousands of people have successfully installed Marias 3.0 without problems.Oh, and one missing consist can cause MSTS to hang up. In fact, sillier things than that will cause it to hang up.I've reinstalled MP3 after the patch. In fact, every so often, I remove MSTS altogether and reinstall it, whether I need it or not, add all my engine changes back in etc. The patch has had no effect on MP3 that I can see.Hopefully one of these suggestions will get you going, but, if not, let us know.Bob Siederer

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I downloaded from RailServe. Perhaps it is a bad file. If I can ever get on the Train-Sim download site, I'll try to capture it there. Also, I was not aware of the activity load, so that might be a contributor as well. Thanks!!!

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Well, rats. I was gonna email you, but the email links still aren't working, I get "Error in your request - reason: no such user" when I click on any email link since the new format. I dunno what's going on, I don't use a firewall and I don't have cookies disabled, so why can't I get the forum email links anymore? I can email anyone whose email address I already have, but I click on the envelope link and everyone is "no such user". Anyone else having this problem?Anyway, I was looking at your structure, and the trk file is changed for the route ID and display name, but the filename reference is still the same as the original Marias, which is probably what confuses the activity editor. Here's a patch to try out, unzip MP30.zip, paste the Marias3.trk and marias3.bat into the \Marias3 folder, copy or move the \Marias3 folder to \Routes, then double click on marias3.bat. This will eliminate the confusion with the extra tdb and trk files in the folder, and the duplicate file names.

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

The original Marias Pass worked even when MP3 was loaded and causing trouble. And it works just fine now that every thing is reloaded. How many consists? Do you mean total in the Train file, or for a particular activity?

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I was looking at the total in the Train file. However, if the original Marias Pass is working for you, then consists are probably not the issue in your case.Take care,Henry

Hello, since quite some time I´m following this and other discussions about install probs with MP3.
One question here: Is it normal that the genuine Marias Pass route still shows up in the menue, together with the version 3.0?Kind regards!H.-P. Franzen / Germany

Hello all and especially Bob Siederer!Marias Pass 3.0 now works for me after I did the installation with "drag and drop" instead of copying files from one folder to another by means of the right click menue items "copy and paste"!
Maybe the difference is obvious to the computer cracks of this forum, to me it was not that clear, and maybe I am/was not the only one.....
Thanks, Bob, for outlining "drag and drop" in your previous post!RegardsH.-P. Franzen

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

Yes, it is normal for you to have the original Marias Pass in the menu along with version 3.0. In fact, it is necessary to have the original MP if you want to install most of the add-on routes that are available.Take care,Henry

RE: Marias Pass 3.0

I just completed the install after several trys. You do have to do
the drag and drop and it has to be to "routes" not Marais3. If you
put in Marias3 and try to run it it all looks good untill you click
on it in the menu and the world locks up. Try it to "Routes" and do
it drag and drop not copy and paste. I don't know what the differ-
ence is,but it is there. I wanted to do it the copy way to save the
the file in my downloads file for a back up but you can't. I Had to
end up downloading it twice before getting it right. You need to
print out a copy of the install directions and put them under your
nose and follow them to the letter.
