RE: Raton Pass

Do you have plan to extend it to Albuquerque, or even Belen and
connect it with the BNSF line?

RE: Raton Pass

Yes - I plan on building another route starting where this route ends ie from Las Vegas NM over Glorieta Pass to Albuqueque, Belen and Dailes NM. I cant find track charts for the branch that goes from Lamy to Santa Fe. (Any help would be appreciated).Raton Pass is currently owned and operated by BNSF. It follows the historic Santa Fe Trail and was built by the ATSF in 1878.I used 1988 ATSF track charts to construct the route. It has about 200 route miles of track. As Yogi Berra would say - The route is complete this weekend whether its finished or not. Might as well upload it - There can always be a version 2.

RE: Raton Pass

It will certainly be good to have this route in the "pool". BNSF has recently been rattling the sword about getting rid of it, and I expect the new president will do his darnest to dump it. It is, by far, the most scenic route portion of the SWC, but with Amtrak in trouble as well, it may be a moot point to argue the scenery.Given the rather stupid actions of the Republican administration, viz-a-viz Amtrak (and I am a registered Republican) following 9-11, I feel I have been blessed and priviledged to have ridden most of the western routes over the last few years. Moffatt Route in 1984, Marias Pass in 1999, Coast Starlight in 1999, Sunset Ltd. in 1999, and SWC in 2001. Unless I get downgraded to coach, I'll be on the SSL from Florida to Houston on 8/29, but if downgraded, I demand a refund, cause I rate coach worse than an airplane.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. (retired)

>I can't seem to find the segment from Lamy to Santa Fe either, but, I do have an extensive collection of BNSF track charts, circa 1998. I have the Glorietta Sub and Raton Sub for example. These include all track, grade info, curvature info, grade crossings, and signal placement. Basically all the details for every foot of track on most of the BNSF. Email me off the list if you want track charts for routes you're working on. They're about 8 MB each zipped so I can't post them here (100 kB max).TulsaRailfan

RE: Raton Pass

As I recall (from a very faulty memory) ATSF sold off the Lamy to Santa Fe branch over 10 years ago (about the same time they sold off the Atchison or Topeka branch). With this sale, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe served none of the company named cities.I remember seeing the Santa Fe branch on some early 1980's (or late 1907's) track plans.

Does Interstate 25 go along the real Raton Pass? If so, I may have seen that famous curve that I see all the time in ATSF books!------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 3John Ekhoff

Looking forward to this one. I expect this is a grueling run compared to MP3, it is steep for a long time.

RE: Raton Pass

The route will be distributed as 2 files 8MB and 10MB. It has signals searchlight and semaphores. It also has scenery. It will only have two activities which use default equipment. You must have the original Marias Pass route and all the default equipment to use this route.

I used to live in "famous" Clovis, NM. Is the Clovis switch going to be in there? (The Clovis switch is where the SF either goes north to Kansas City (Chicago) and goes south to Houston and New Orleans.)------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 5John Ekhoff

Actually, I think my signature might be wrong, it could be the Santa Fe that inspired me. I remember when my dad was driving me to Cannon AFB (8 mi. west of Clovis on U.S. 60) I used to get excited seeing a Santa Fe intermodal running by... We moved there in 1990 or so, and stayed for three years.------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 7John Ekhoff
