Has anyone come across any track side signs of the informational variety in either the "out of the box MSTS" or in an add-on.In doing the BR sub, as some may have noticed last night in my posted pix, I used "station platforms" at the north portal of each tunnel with the name and number of the tunnel on it, as for example, "SNIPES #46". However, it would be better if there was a visible sign next to the track with this data on it - in the real world the numbers are impressed into the concrete portals, absent in rock or timber portals (usually), and it would be unusual to find a sign there, but I thought it would be a useful touch. As it is, the signs I am using can be turned on or off. There are other spots though, where a sign would be useful - for example at placed named on the time table - although I have used named sidings and "platforms" at those spots as well. Then there are the esoteric ones, like "Camp 2". Now any Clinchfield fan knows where this is, and what it refers to, but others might wonder where it is anyway.Word for the "Yankee" - my associate, YellowDog is having a fit about my appropriated yankee engine - claims it is a disgrace to "his" railroad. As information, "Yellowdog" is one of those infinitely fortunate individuals who lives about 150' from the railroad of his interest, and therefore can account for everything that goes by.J. H. RE: Signs ?? Clinchfield ---
Actually, I live about 50' from said railroad (we're currently in the midst of a land squabble within our neighborhood - -yippee!- -so I know! ) As far as signs go, I kind of like the way you're doing it with the pop-up messages/station names. While it might be useful for those who don't know the railroad, an actual sign on the side of the tracks would be somewhat "in the way" (and unprototypical) for those of us who do and would probably get old for those who currently don't know, but would learn as they ran the route more frequently. Perhaps an accompanying readme file with a brief description of places, or an information sheet (i.e. number of tunnels and bridges with their MP location and lengths) would be more appropriate? I don't know- -just some thoughts. If you decide to go with something typed up, I'll be glad to help. I also think it would be cool to do something similar to the default routes when they are loading up and give station names, elevation markers, etc in boxes. I have this information (you probably do too) and can help out with making the image files necessary for this to happen. Let me know if you need/want help. I'm currently in Illinois and will be leaving for Washington DC tomorrow, but I can get back with you when I get home next week. Clayton
