Jul-12-01, 09:18 PM (EST) "Track Laying Questions" Could someone help me with the problems I am having. Well, first off, I can't wait to try the new DEM Importer prog. It looks excellent, but befoe I use that, I would like to know how make double track split into single track. I've spent all night trying various track peices and none of them have worked. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong and tell me what track peices I need to use? Oh yeah, and eveyone is talking about markers before laying track. What are markers and what do they do? I would greatly appreciate it if someonecould help me. Thanks! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-12-01, 09:49 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Track Laying Questions" I am fairly sure that the information you are looking for regarding splitting one track into two and vice versa is on the first CD for MSTS - the article is titled:
Laying Track and Terrain.docIt is exactly what you are looking for in this regard.

Jul-12-01, 10:47 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Track Laying Questions" The article titled "How to Create Marker Files" in the Techdocs folder of the MSTS CD#1 explains how to create a marker file. Also, see Response #3 at the following thread, were I explained my experience with using markers in setting track sections: http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/8.htmlMarkers can be any of three styles, by entering a 0, 1 or 2 on its line in the marker file. Number 2 is just a vertical post with a flag on top, while Numbers 0 and 1 have a large horizontal flat plate a few meters off the ground, so you can see them when looking down from a high camera level. These two also have a vertical plate at the top of their post, which seems to face you from any direction when your camera is pointed at them is a more or less horizontal manner. This makes them easy to see from a distance, but the horizontal plate sort of gets in your way when you are working up close to them, (you have to put the camera close to the ground to get under it and see the track clearly). I found it helpful to change the marker file so that the close ones were Number 2 markers. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-13-01, 11:13 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Track Laying Questions" You can split single to double track by choosing the desired switch in the track list, then the corresponding end point. The following is from the tech document included with the program called Laying Track and Terrain:"A switch is actually made out of two track pieces. These two pieces must have the same name; a half switch to the right must always be joined with another half switch to the right. For example, the A1tPnt10dRght track section is half of a 10degree right hand switch. The three stages of creating a switch are shown in the picture below. Initially the first half of the switch is placed; then a second identical piece is snapped to it; finally, the remaining spaces can be filled with two A1t10mstrt pieces (10 meter straights). Both ends of the track are now level and any additional track can be snapped to it to continue your route." Hope this helps.Nick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jul-13-01, 01:47 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Track Laying Questions" It seems that they are describing the way to make the turnout portion wind up parallel with the original track. If you want your turnout to diverge away from the main track, you should be able to snap on any section you want. If I'm mistaken, please post a response here.
