Feb-07-02, 06:01 AM (EST) "This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" This has never happened in the (?) months i've had the game! My best possible guess would be the route i'm currently working on. I kinda went crazy and added a bunch of buildings in about the same area. Now could this cause the RE to crash? or is it something else? I have 256k memory, but I hear that's not enough. Could someone help me out? Thanx Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

More than that!!!
Keep going!!
Almost there!
Ummmmmm, that should be enough, for now.The more "stuff" you add to a route the faster it will run out of memory and crash. My system has 1GB and It can literally go 6-8 hours without a crash (my system can now last longer than I can). 256MB is good for about 15-30 minutes and counting down as the route grows.I see memory prices are starting to fall again. Manufacturers must have geared up to meet the MSTS demand.Richard Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-07-02, 08:04 PM (EST) 3. "RE: This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" RAM more RAM into that box.I went from 256 to 512 of DDR and it made all the difference, though it will still crash after multiple terrain manipulations. I suspect as I add more objects my working time between crashes will continue to decrease. For now, I just keep working until I see the infamous black screen start to occur, then bail out of the cab before getting scalded to death by the steam! Feb-07-02, 08:59 PM (EST) 5. "RE: This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" As soon as you see the editor start to flicker or things stop functioning, save and reboot. When I had 64 megs of RAM I would reboot 3 to five time a night. Upgraded to 320 megs and reboot once a night, maybe twice if I totally lose control of myself.Best Regards

Feb-08-02, 00:02 AM (EST) 6. "RE: This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" I have 512 Megs, shutdown everything except systray and explorer, and still only last an hour or so before getting the first black screen. I have an extra stick of 128 that I could put in, but I can't remember what I have to do to go above 512 with win 98SE ( Something about a cache statement i think )oboe Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-08-02, 01:31 AM (EST) 7. "RE: This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" i believe it all pretty much depends on your System board it self if it can handle more then 512 then it can, if im wrong with this someone else Correct me, but if a System board can go up to Say 768md Ram which would be the Max for that Board then you would be able to go up to 768 without exceeding that limitnow my Question, im considering getting Windows XP upgrade, does anyone here have that, is it any better then Windows 98, does the Programs run any better ... basic questions if it isn't worth getting then im not going to hack out the Money to get itThanks Bob... Feb-08-02, 08:56 AM (EST) 8. "RE: This Just In-- RE crashes 3 times in one night!" Hi Bob :My Board will handle up to 768 megs, but I remember reading ( several times ) about a problem that win98 has with ram amounts above 512 megs. You have to insert some sort of a cache statement in one of the ini files ( I think it's an ini file ), or the added ram will actually be useless, and use up existing ram addressing itself. ( or something like that )I did a google search, but I must not be using the right keywords, because I'm not finding the info. This only applies to win98. The newer OS systems go well above 512, but they all have limits somewhere ( IE: WinME, 2000, XP, etc. )I didn't envision ever having to use more than 512 megs in this system when I built it, so I didn't pay any attention. Who would have thought that so many people would pursue a program so full of memory leaks. ( I never thought I would be working with polygons and doing rendering either. )Playing with the route editor is like trying to drink water from from a flour sifter.
