Sep-11-01, 03:21 AM (EST) "Hoogdam Line released!" For all the fans of electric trains (and especially for the Dutch MSTS fans), I've released a new fictional route called 'Hoogdam Line'. Some features include:-3 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 6 'normal' stations
-Electric wires at a height specified for the NS trains*
-many AI trains driving their own schedule (including Sprinter, 1800, 1200, Koploper, Regiorunner, Eurostar etc)
-2 Activities, drive from the begin to the end and vice versa in day or night
-2 big and 2 small cities to explore
-enviromental sounds so without seeing you know where you are
-2 big tunnels and 1 big bridgeYou can download the route at:
http://home.wanadoo.nl/wjnijhof/Remember to read the readme.txt after you've downloaded the route!!Screenshots can be found at:

Sep-11-01, 05:08 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" It's a wonderful route! I've played it and it worked perfectly. But, can you make a non-fictional route as well?? I've saw screenshots from the Dutch routes that were made by nstrainstation.cjb.net and I think that you're routes are better (qua graphics). Really!
The route's are longer then, but don't worry about the space...Go on!!!Jorgen Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-11-01, 01:33 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Thanks for the nice comments, I hope you had a nice time driving it I already made a tiny start to make a non-fictional route based around Den Haag but because the lack of data (maps etc) I can't continue it. The 2nd problem is that I can't find any suitable stations which I can use for my track.
Oh, and I'll have a look at the other forum ASAP. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-11-01, 11:31 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hi. I thank you for uploading the route. There are missing sounds, consists, and missing Sky! files that are not default files. The install.bat does not copy the needed files. The first time I ran it I got five errors that there were missing .sms files. I added these myself manually. There is no sound in the tunnels due to missing sound sms files (crossing,
gen_dc_urb1, gen_uk_nat1, gen_mont_nat1, gen_mont_nat2) and the other missing sound files . I have Sky!2 installed so that's not a problem for me but others will have a lot of problems due to the missing Sky!2 files and the missing sound files. The activities fail due to the two missing consists as posted in my previous message. Can you please post a patch so we can get it working? The route looks GREAT! Thanks and best regards, Bob. Sep-11-01, 10:12 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hi. Thanks for the route. I installed it and ran the Activity Analysis program to check for missing consists. The missing consists are:
NS Koploper ICM3+3.con
NS Koploper ICM4+4.con
These consists are listed as CRITICAL by the Activity Analysis program. Can you upload these consists somewhere, please. Thanks, regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 00:52 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hi. I used EZStuff2.bat which I placed in the Hoogdam Route folder and ran it. It fixed all of the missing files. You might want to consider using this install file rather than your install file to install all of the needed files. When I ran the route using this install there were no missing .sms files or .wav files. The route is spectacular! You deserve a lot of credit for an excellent route! Another thing I noted was that in the Activity Editor map of the route it shows a turnaround loop which is not connected to the track at the last tunnel at Platform 4 (I believe). Is this intentional? Is the loop planned or future versions? Thanks and best regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 01:09 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" I did the same thing to install it, Bob, and altho I don't get the missing textures I still get the sound regions dropping out, after the first change I think. I had sounds added to my route at one time, but it must have been beginners luck, cuz after a crash where I had to restore a backup that didn't have sounds in them, I tried to add them again and got a bunch of errors. Are you getting this from the dutch route, IE no clickety clack after passing the first crosssing or bridge? I'd love to figure out what causes that, but maybe it only does that on my computer. Sep-12-01, 01:25 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hi. I get no errors using the EZStuff2.bat. It put all the right files in the route. The sounds are lacking though. It is really quiet in the tunnels. I don't get any clickety clack sounds. I did find out that I did not have the NS Koploper trains installed. I am sorry that I posted the message above about the missing consists. I found this using Ernst's latest Activity Analysis program which is GREAT for finding errors in the consists and services.Best regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I first wanted to copy all the sound files from the 6 basic routes but some routes have some sound files with thesame name while they're actually a different sound.
The missing sound files you meantion can be found in your template folder (I assumed that when you install the game (MSTS) that he automatically creates that folder)...The missing

>NS Koploper ICM3+3.con

I think that you've the 0.4 version (the previous version of the train) and that does NOT include those files.Get the 1.0 version at http://trainstation.cjb.net/ if that doesn't work then I'll try something else for youAnd about the 'clickety clack' sounds, I don't know exactly how sound regions work (I don't know what sound 'concrete supported' or 'default' is etc). Any help on the sound regions thingie is welcome. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 02:04 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-01 AT 02:06 AM (EST)Hi. I did get the version 1.0 and got the missing consists. Thanks, sorry because I had the wrong version. The sounds in the tunnel are missing as well as the clickety clack that Sniper mentioned. Also when I ran the activities I did not get the "OK to Proceed" although they are called out in the ingame.sms file. Do you have an amount of passengers set at each station in the route? Someone mentioned this as a possibility when the "OK to Proceed" does not play. Is the turnaround loop not connected for some reason? Will it be connected in any follow-on version. When I get to Platform 4 and the tunnel I crash and go off the end of the track. Thanks for a GREAT route. The scenery is EXCELLENT! Best regards, Bob. >EXCELLENT! Best regards, Bob. Thanks for your nice comment , and about your questions:
20 people are waiting at the 'normal' stations (approx 1 minut loading time) and 15 people are waiting at the 'underground' stations (approx 45 seconds loading time)The loop has some bugs in it (the signals stay on red) and sometimes you can see 'under the ground' because there aren't some 'track tunnel' pieces which I actually need. Check the following pic if you want to know what I mean.
(As you can see , the points aren't covered by 'tunnels' so you can see thruw the track if you know what I mean, the scr shot is taken in the editor.
You can easily plz a track section at the missing part so you can see how it is inside. (that's why the end of the hoogdam route doesn't have a buffer))Oh and Sniper, if you know how sound regions work then plz tell me. I placed the sound regions in thesame style as the 'Amtrak' route but it seems things behave a little more different then expected... (is this why the 'L1' and 'PortOgden' Line don't use sound regions?) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>files. When the BAT file does NOT copy sounds into your 'hoogdam/sounds' directory it means that you don't have a 'MSTS/template' directory. I don't know if that directory is created when you install MSTS for the 1st time but if that's NOT the case then there's a little problem because I don't know when the template folder at my PC got createdI may however include the sound directory (with ONLY the sounds used in the hoogdam route) into the next version. (downside is that file size will increase from 1.8 MB to 4 Mb then) The consists problem can be fixed by downloading Version 1.0 from all the NS trains. The missing Sky files have been fixed and will be included in V1.7 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 08:27 AM (EST) 14. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" I accidently used this template directory when I was creating my first add-on route. In order to get it back I had to re-install. I looked on the CD but that route (template) is not stored as a route but is generated by the install program. When I clicked and then moved up to the routes directory I used left click and instead of copying I 'moved' it. Had to clear off and re-install. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 08:37 AM (EST) 15. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hey, Eagle, I like your route. Especially the subway under the lake, really cool. No, I don't have a clue about the sounds, which is why I was asking. After adding different track sounds that actually worked great, I had an unrelated crash and was forced to restore a backup from a few days before I added the sounds, and the second time I tried to add them I got the same thing you have on your route. I tried to figure out what was wrong and fix it, but started getting a boatload of error messages, and the working copy got badly corrupted, so eventually I gave up and restored the backup again. Too bad, cause if you look at my route (Port Ogden and Northern 3.1, available in file library here) you'll see one curved combination bridge with steel and concrete sections, and the one time I had it working the sound changed from concrete supported to steel girder and back again, and really enhanced the experience of driving over that bridge. I'm going to figure it out eventually and get the sounds working, probably on version eighty-six or something, but for now just the default track sound. When comboref first came out many of us copied all the shapes and textures from the six routes into the \templates folder, so the geo extractor would automatically add all that to each new extracted route. I found that this is a mistake, because if you set up your installation to copy files from \template, anyone who has not modified his own \template folder the same way is going to get the missing texture errors. I currently have the default \template folder restored, and I use Ezstuf2.bat after extracting a route to add all the objects to it. I goofed again in version three, which is why there's a 3.1, so currently I have two copies of the \Trains folder I alternately swap between the game and a backup folder. My everyday one I play with has all the custom add on trainsets and consists, and I copy that to a different folder in the backup directory and restore the original before I write activities to make sure I don't include something that's on my computer and no one else's. I haven't checked your route out thoroughly yet, but I looked at your batch file and it looks to me like you're leaving out the seasonal textures. A few weeks after distributing Gitstufd.zip with the two clunky batch files in it I went up into the attic and dug out my old MSDOS 5.0 manual, and found a simpler way - just put a space, forward slash S (\*.* /s) at the end of each line to tell it to get the subdirectories too. I may upload a version three of those files with a little more streamlining, but I was really expecting that someone else would have come up with a better way by now so I haven't been working on install bats except for my own route. Here's a photograph of the bridge I was talking about. This was taken from the top of the other bridge by a young railfan with better climbing skills than sense, and I stole it from the Port Ogden Police evidence locker. Horrified onlookers had called the Johnsburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, who caught the kid neatly in a net after he leaned over to get a better angle, and turned him over to the Port Ogden cops. Hopefully I can figure out how to get the sounds back on it by the next version. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-12-01, 11:22 AM (EST) 17. "RE: Hoogdam Line released! (Version 1.7 now available!)" LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-01 AT 11:27 AM (EST)Well, It took me 2 hours but now the sound regions work It's a bit strange because first I used the 'US' version of the sound regions and that didn't work. Now I've changed all US sound regions into EU (Europe) sound regions and voila, it works!Anyway, I've uploaded a new version of my Hoogdam Line which fixes the following things.-Sound regions have been fixed, you can hear now whether you're on a bridge or in a tunnel, you can hear the famous 'clickety clack sounds' once again
-Some people did not have a template folder in their MSTS directory so they couldn't get the sound files. This has been temporarily fixed by including all the sound files (Used on this Route only!) into the zip file, (this explains the increase in file size BTW)....
-Some people had problems with the Sky files. This has been fixed.
-Textures from the ground have been changed. Now it looks a little more realistic. What is not fixed yet:
-1 signal bug Get it at http://home.wanadoo.nl/wjnijhof/NOTE: If you miss some CONSISTS files then make SURE you have the 1.0 versions of the NS trains!Enjoy!-----------

Sep-12-01, 03:16 PM (EST) 18. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Great route! I love the way you did the underground stations. Excellent! There seems to be only one fly in the ointment: If you ran the route with rain or snow, it's raining or snowing in the underground stations.Otherwise, thanks for your effort. Sep-13-01, 01:12 AM (EST) 20. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" Hi again. One thing I noted was in the Sound folder there is a crossing.sms file that refers to the following files:sig_euro.wav
sig_gateo_a.wav
sig_gatec_a.wavThe sig_euro.wav does appear in the Sounds folder during your installation. The sig_gateo_a.wav and sig_gatec_a.wav do not. I copied these files into the Sounds folder from another route Sound folder.Should the installation have included these files? What do they do? I did note that the crossings seemed quiet without the last two files and sounded OK with them. Thanks, regards, Bob. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Sep-13-01, 01:26 AM (EST) 21. "RE: Hoogdam Line released!" The only 2 files you need for the crossing are sig_euro.wav and sig_us_a.wav.
Yesterday I went for another really big test drive and stopped at every road crossing and all the crossing sounds worked so.. That's the only 2 files you need (and they're included in the zip file btw) but if you miss them then get them from another route (just do a search with the 2 files you need) Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
