RE: tender coal levels

Me too, I've thought about this for a while but what is not clear in the TS docs is whether the coal shape model has to be animated, or whether you just place it in the tender (requires entry in WAG file) and the sim animates it automatically, dropping the level according to coal use.

RE: tender coal levels

I was just wondering the same thing this morning, It is not obvious in the techdocs, although it may have something to do with the freight animation file, just a thought.Regards,
Sam

Under the "IntakePoint" lines in your tender's .wag file, you can add the line FreightAnim( scotcoal.s 2.2 0 )You must have the scotcoal.s file in the tender's folder. This will add the .s file on to the tender model, and the hardcoding of the sim will animate it according to the usage. It will also animate when you fill the tender at a coaltower. The 2.2 is the level of the coal, in meters, I believe, in the tender when it's full. Not sure about the "0"...might have to do with position on z axis. You will only see the animation if the tender is modeled "empty"...if there is already a pile of coal in the bin, it will just sink below that. You can create your own .s files for coal to add to any tender...I even got it to work in a hopper car (only catch was it only worked when coupled behind a steam engine as a tender!). Name it "yourname.s" and ust the same name in the FreightAnim line.Hope that helps.

RE: tender coal levels

G'day,
I just want to know how you can make the tender coal level drop as it get used up (like on the scotsman). Can you use TSM to do it.
GavinI am assuming you are making a tender, and want to animate the coal bed. This is how I do it in 3D Canvas I think basically its the same in TSM. You will need to create a separate shape for the coal I use a 1 sided cube and divide it to make the coal mound up, If you check the scotsman directory you will note a file called scotscoal.s this is the coal bed for the scotsman. I create a seperate Main for the coal and call it what ever the model is Im building ie: A4coal.s and eventually export it to the same directory as the model Im making. Here is how you must set it up though, in 3D Canvas I do it like this. You must first place your coal bed in the tender and place it at its lowest point, as if the tender has run out of coal, you must then move the axis point down and back to match that of the tenders, so the axis point of the coal bed is now in the same position as the axis point of the tender on the ground and in the middle. You then export the tender as MYTENDER.s make sure that the coal bed is not part of the tenders Hierachy, the coal bed is in its own Hierachy, you then export it as MYTENDERCOAL.s (the name is up to you)when done the wag file must be modified, if you use the scotsmantender wag file as a base look down to where it says FreightAnim( scotscoal.s 2.2 0 )and replace scotscoal.s with the name of your s file the following figures are a fine adjustment for raising or lowering the coal bed in the game.I hope you understand and I hope this is basically how it works in TSM as it works perfect for me in 3D canvas.Peter
