The new version of 3D Canvas... V3.7 now includes specular lighting in the exporter!!! Brilliant!!..... There is now no other software that even comes close to what 3DCanvas can do with ease!It also includes a flight simulator exporter as well as the train simulator one! so you can build models for that as well.Check it out at the Amabilis Web Site: http://www.amabilis.comBest Regards,

OK, but will it stop crashing the computer with the latest Radeon or GeForce Drivers, I downloaded the demo, and it actually caused my computer to Shutdown! It's a known problem in the FAQ's.Robert

It will probably stop crashing when you stop using the latest (in my case...Nvidia) drivers. That's been my experience.Mine is rock solid on a previous driver version... If I install that latest Nvidia Detonator drivers... It's unstable.Just my 2 cents...

The best of the bunch is still the the 27.42 Geforce Detonator Drivers. You can get em from http://www.Guru3d.com also grab the detonator destroyer while you're there to get rid of the drivers you're using now first! otherwise they won't install properly. Best Regards,

Secondly I agree about drivers. A lot of things are unstable under the latest driver sets. The best of the bunch is still the the 27.42 Geforce Detonator Drivers.I tried free edition of 3DC way before there even was version 27+ of Geforce drivers. The drivers i had were WHQL certified, rock-stable and certainly not a beta release. With those drivers, 3DCanvas was the only program (3d or otherwise) i found capable of crashing win2k so hard it'd actually shutdown...without even an error screen. It'd do it as soon as you tried to access material editor, IIRC.For what's worth, 3DC would operate properly under the same version of the drivers in win98 se.

RE: 3D Canvas News!!!! Important for all users!!!

That's because win2000 (otherwise known as windows NT) Isn't built to run DirectX Canvas uses the DirectX API.... So it's hardly surprising that it crashed it out.Well, seeing how i can download both user and developer editions of latest DirectX for Win2k, i'll have to disagree with this. Also, seeing how many other programs and games i have tried were using DirectX, and operated perfectly stable under this OS... i'll have to put the blame for crashes on the way 3DC is coded, rather than any other system component. Especially since 3DC performed some test of graphics system abilities when it was installed, and seemed to be satisfied with the results...

LAST EDITED ON Jun-21-02 AT 01:25 PM (EDT)Hey Rob,
Isn't it about time you break down and start using it? I've been using 3dCanvas under Nvidia drivers on the Ti-500 with not one problem at all. I have had my upgraded system now for a little over a month and 3dC hasn't crashed more than 1 or 2 times. And, when it has, I've had 3dCanvas, PSP7, Eudora, and Internet Explorer running, and the issue was "not enough system memory. close some programs and reopen 3dCanvas" And all that was due to lots of stuff on the PSP clipboard (in memory).Out of curiosity, how do I know what version of nVidia driver I'm using? "Under System Properties" and "Driver File Details" it says nVidia Corp... File version: 4.13.01.2832. Is that it? Is it the last part of the version number (2832)? There is also a date of 3-9-02. BTW, I'm still running Windows 98 SE. It works for me.Thanks guys,

RE: 3D Canvas News!!!! Important for all users!!!

A small point: An application program can't actually crash Windows 2000/XP. That's the beauty of a protected OS like 2000/XP: You only have to worry about the OS itself (and in Windows 2000/XP's case the video card drivers). As far as I know the latest NVIDIA drivers are OK, but the latest ATI drivers are going into an "infinite loop" (according to ATI) which causes the reboot. Hopefully they will decide to fix them one of these days, but fortunately the "old" drivers that do work are only a few months "old".Richard

Let me rephrase then: 3DC was (still is?) the only program i've found able to confuse nvidia's official and certified graphics drivers so hard, it'd cause the whole OS to reboot on regular basis. Not that it makes a difference from end-user's point of view.

I saw it last week at my local railway station when all the destination boards turned a lovely shade of Microstuffed Blue in the middle of the afternoon and were like that for over an hour!! But it uses a lot of 3D viewports which I would guess is fairly uncommon for Direct3D app. The frustrating part for me (the developer) is that though 3DC has had roughly a quarter million downloads, NVIDIA and ATI still do not bother to test it with their latest drivers and will not accept Amabilis as a "registered developer".Richard

The nature of this particular DirectX call was that there was no work-around. Believe me I looked . But things are better now. Fortunately I came across someone who had a friend at NVIDIA and they seem to have got together to fix the NVIDIA issue. No such luck with ATI. But eventually they will get to it.Richard

This Flat Outline mode is not of much use at all.... By all means leave that in but please put Flat Wireframe back in as well. Simply because it's great for aligning components in relation to each other... Now I'm having to go into wireframe mode to do it and that's really dificult to see what's going on when it's a complex mesh. Flat wireframe was great for that.Best Regards,

RE: 3D Canvas News!!!! Important for all users!!!

Richard, I upgraded to 5.7 (LP version) last night. I'm now getting strange effects with the paintbrush (i.e. apply material to face). if I use it to apply a graphic (BMP or TGA) to a non-vertical face, it appears skewed (tilted to the right slightly when viewed from the front). Image is cropped and "size to fit" is selected. Sometimes the cropped area is not correctly applied also (height and width seem wrong). However, if I select the face then use the "apply material" tool it works correctly. Thanks, Jimi

I tried using something called Ge Force tweak (or something like that!!!). 3dc seemed to work ok, crashed very seldom, but it made my MSTS look crappy. I tried to revert to a previous condition with no luck, so it looks like a reinstall of video drivers, TSM, 3DC, MSTS, the works!!! I felt I was better off leaving things alone. Also a question--is flightsim support a plugin or does it appear in export only on 5.7a or is it in 5.7? I'm not sure I installed the program correctly?Dave

Dave...>I tried using something called Ge Force tweak (or something

It's very very easy to actually fry the chips on your video card with it... My advice to anybody who even thinks about overclocking and tweaking like this is to leave well alone... unless you really do know what you're doing! >I tried to revert to a
