Feb-10-02, 01:22 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: Illinois Central theater car update" Howdy,This is part of the Illinois Central business fleet.Message Areas - "Illinois Central theater car update" – image 6 The observation/theater car was originally built in 1950, by Pullman-Standard, for Union Pacific. In 1951, the Wabash bought it and used it on the "City of St. Louis, in joint operation with U.P.Norfolk and Western got it in the merger with Wabash and rebuilt it, redoing the windows in the tiered theater part as well as the large end window. They named it the "Alta Vista" and used it for system inspection. After the Norfolk Southern merger, it was auctioned off and Illinois Central got it in 1993 in an equipment exchange with Nashville and Eastern Railroad Corp, who had bought it.Today it is part of the IC business fleet, and is still used for inspection with two 1.3 million candlepower lights at the bottom rear of the car.As a matter of fact, it passed not a mile from my home last week returning from the Superbowl on the "City of New Orleans."I have seen photos of two other cars like this one. One on the CNW and the other Santa Fe, the latter having been borrowed by th IC prior to them getting the "Alta Vista" in 93.I am planning on modeling the other three IC business cars as well. All of this info as well as the photo are from the IC hand out I have about the business train. Thanks,
Sam
