Dec-15-01, 11:30 AM (EST) "Maglev trains in MSTS?" I have seen the guideway is available to download but are there any Maglev trains to download for train simulator?

Dec-15-01, 12:12 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" Not yet. From what the creator wrote on this board, he had run into some texturing problems. Also I do not think TS currently has any provisions for "true" Maglev technology in its programming, so to the game it would still be a mere "electric locomotive" - only on, well, different-looking trackage, one might say. Also TS does not currently support banked trackage/guideways in curves, so for the time being we'd have to do the "banking" in our imagination - of course in reality there would be no way at all how the Transrapid could negotiate curves without banking.D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I just downloaded the tracks and made a test route but we will need some type of loco and rolling stock !!Looks like this has some potential !! I hope Craig Scott who uploaded the tracks will release a the loco and cars soon...Patm41 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-16-01, 02:40 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-01 AT 02:48 PM (EST)You can try banking the engine but were all burnt out for ideas it appears whatever you do MSTS puts it back to flat. See the thread "can trains be made to bank" at http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=1966&forum=DCForumID5&omm=24I think we exhausted that one. Although there could be some Leonardo Davinci out there that hits it, never give up, but read the older thread first it'll save a lot of heartache. Dec-15-01, 01:23 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" Thanks for the feedback. I would be happy with one of these even as a static scenery object, although it would be nice to see one running in MSTS.

Dec-15-01, 09:04 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" If you don't mind a partially textured train, I'll upload it very soon. TSM stuffs up the polygon smoothing on sharp edges too so there's some shading in the wrong areas. I cannot get the front windows done because of it's shape, TSM treats the front as the top and a texture on the top does not appear correctly on the 'front' if you know what I mean.I have a 2 car maglev ready to go but it's, well, pre-alpha version at the moment.Tell you what, I'll organise the files required and upload it anyway so you have something to play with, perhaps someone with experience and skill in this area will come forward with advice.Thankyou very much also to Terry (cyberstorm) for his advice on creating curved track in TSM.Craig Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-16-01, 07:46 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" Hi Craig,
Dont laugh but I tried mocking up a "Maglev" using standard scenery objects -an elevated track, hidden "inside" concrete beams and running a short Acela trainset. It couldn't stand up to close inspection, of course, but gave a passable impression in the middle distance. It was just an experiment and I scrapped it. So I am looking forward to seeing your model.
Cheers,
John

Its probably better as I doubt we'll get it leaning for a while. Thanks for the mention, much appreciated.

Dec-16-01, 10:06 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Maglev trains in MSTS?" The guideway sections I've already uploaded include the 'flat' curves, not the banked ones. Abacus has recently updated the help file for TSM and it includes more information on texturing.
The current zip file I have prepared is 4.8Mb.I may just be able to complete the front windows now and release an alpha version. I'll do that first then fiddle with it more and try to iron out the minor defects.Only advice I can offer right now to all is to make a really nice route with the guideway, and place trees, buildings, lakes or whatever in the route. Please be patient, the Maglev has departed and is on it's way.

When abucus updates the help file further with animation information, I'll get to work on some switches. Anyone still without the guideway sections, do a search in the file downloads, it's also been listed in the "Misc" section. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
