Feb-01-02, 11:02 AM (EST) "Obtaining conduction parameters." Hi to all:It is possible to obtain the parameters of conduction of the locomotive, like the levels of pressure of the brakes, the present speed, the acceleration, etc. to be able to connect clocks outside the computer? This is a very very interesting question!!!! More so than would be apparent to most people reading it.Clearly you want that data feed in order to build a full size driving cab and thus be able to run the instruments in it.The simple answer is NO! MSTS does not output that data it is only stored in internal variables.HOWEVER!! The more complex answer is that it's not impossible just very difficult! If you could write a small program that would sit in memory (ie Memory Resident) and read the stored variables at specified intervals of so many microseconds. Then you could in fact obtain that data for output. This would of course require knowledge of the internal workings of the simulator and knowledge of the memory locations where the variables are stored. As I said It's not impossible but it is very difficult.Simple answer NO MSTS won't do it right now without a lot of programming and significant skill. Could be an expensive proposition to find a programmer who can do it! If it was easy I'd have had a go at it myself already... because that thought also occoured to me! LOL Best Regards,

Feb-08-02, 10:28 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Obtaining conduction parameters." Hi all About this, searching devices for Flight Simulator, I find a EPIC Card developed for R&R Electronics (http://www.flightlink.com/epic/) who is an affordable USB interface card which was designed for computer enthusiasts as well as home aircraft cockpit builders. That allows to connect devices like rudders, throttle control, etc. In addition they have a Control Panel that shows the associated parameters of the flight, the KR-1 Avionics Stack
(http://www.flightlink.com/hardware/fixedwing/kr1.html).These devices indicate to me that, at least for the flight simulator, it is possible to obtain the parameters outwards. The question is: It will be able to be done the same with the MSTS? Germán Morales Loyola

Once you have stored a program in EPIC and set it in run mode, the instructions you have written will execute independent of whatever your computer is doing, such as running MSTS. EPIC has both USB and keyboard outputs. You can program it to emulate a keyboard so that when you press a real control lever or button, the corresponding keycode will be generated. You can use this function without any access to the MSTS source code. I am currently building a set of real controls and using the EPIC interface. However, if you want to drive real displays (speed, BP pressure, etc)or sense throttle notch in a real detented control, you need access to the state variables. MS Flight Simulator has been hacked to the extent that you can get add-ons that will give you that access, but no one has done that MSTS so far as I know. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who is trying to do so. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I'm no programmer, but it occurs to me that the "state variables", if by that you mean the data about speed, amps, brake pressure, and the positions of the levers, is constantly outputting data from the sim to the video card to update the in-cab view displays on the monitor. Figure out a way to tap off of that. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
