Nov-29-01, 10:34 AM (EST) "ModernEngland 3 - Problems" Hi,
I've upgraded to Modernengland 3, but unable to run it because the following error:
1) No extended shape data for UKSemLQDist.s
2) Failed to open shapefile routes\Modernengland\Shapes\UKSemLQHome.sI don't know if this is the last error, or maybe there are additional.
How to correct it.Thanks.Adam Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Can anyone help? I downloaded Modern England 2 and it worked fine until I downloaded and installed V3. Now every time I try to use Mod Eng. I keep getting error messages about missing .s &.ace files. Well I suppose it makes a change from the usual; "Due to a points failure at ..."
Good route though, i'n'it?

>Paul A few of us have had the same problem. We don't know why. For some reason a few files from the 'Shapes' folder went missing. The easiest way to solve it is to temporarily reinstall V2 into a temporary folder outside TrainSim. Goto the Shapes folder there and copy the 36 files UKSemLQxxxx.s and .sd to your Trainsim\Routes\Modern England\Shapes folder. That should do it.If you have previously unpacked the V2 activities you will have to do some work in the Activities Route Editor. We can help if you have a problem.Regards,David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-29-01, 11:55 AM (EST) 3. "RE: ModernEngland 3 - Problems" Interesting that - I have both the files on my system and assume they were in version 2. As I understand it from the readme (I have only downloaded it today) this is an add-on rather than a replacement and Version 2 must be installed already.Anyway to the two guys above with difficulties - you have mail.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>Adam I found three missing files,
UKSemLQHome.s
UKSemLQHomeDist.s
UKSemLQDist.sJames Hunt sent me a zip file with 36 files, ie 18 .s files and the companion .sd files. After installing them I've had no further problems. I suspect that only the above three files are actually needed.James can't understand why I needed these files, as he thought they relevant ones were included in the earlier moderneng v2, which I had anyway.Regards,David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-30-01, 04:49 AM (EST) 8. "RE: ModernEngland 3 - Problems" I installed V2 on my laptop, and found that I had all the missing files. So why they wweren't on my main computer I don't know. All I can think of is that at some time I had reinstalled V1.1 and then installed V3 on top.Just for the exercise I deleted the whole route, reinstalled V2, then V3, and unpacked the Morningrun Activity. I got all sorts of activity error messages, which I expected. I tried editing the activity, rerouting the path, still got errors, removed the traffic, no better. Then I realised it was the static consists which were off the line. I removed them, and all is fine. But I will now have to rebuild the activity. When I started the edit, I kept getting messages asking if I wanted to overwrite. I did, but perhaps I shouldn't have done. Maybe I'll have another go, without overwriting this time, and see what happens.I still think James has done a superb job. It's a fine route, and I'm learning a lot about TrainSim <S>David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Nov-30-01, 11:53 AM (EST) 9. "RE: ModernEngland 3 - Problems" Installed version 3 over version 2 as directed in the readme file. Fired up MSTS, selected Moderneng, and then Route Exploration, everything was fine. Attempted to fire up each of the three activities in turn and each time MSTS aborted with a send to MS dialogue. Fired up the Activity Editor and got all sorts of messages from wrong platforms to cars being too far from the track. Tried reloading the activities only to be informed that "Installed track database for this route is version 111. Activity was built on version 137". >137". No problem. Just let it go and resave the activity. I've only done this with 'morningrun', but the others should be similar. In morningrun the main problem seems to be the static consists, which are off the track in V3. All you need to do is to put them on the nearest black track and resave. You might also have to adjust the player path start and finish points very slightly. I've done it, and all's well.Regards,David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>David That would make sense, as the Semaphore signals weren't included with version 1 but were with version 2, and that's why the error message appeared. Now that makes sense.
As for the activities, unfortunaley there is not much I can do for them, as I had to re-build part of the map (London) and of course this caused the error messages in the activities. When I do version 4, (as explained in the readme) I'm going to leave the track that's laid now as is, and it won't get moved. This should mean that any activities build for version 3 onwards will stay intact even after the next upgrade.James.

Maybe Adam did the same. There is probably quite a lot of work adjusting the V2 adventures for V3. It took me some time to work out the solutions just for 'morninrun', and the other two might be more complex. But I'm learning all the time.I'm looking forward to V4.There are now several authors working on UK routes. NW Trains have a good one, which looks as if it might come close to yours sometime.Regards,David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=4200&forum=DCForumID3&omm=0And the missing shapes for the semaphore signals are in this post;
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/5241.htmlIt contains a lot of what people are looking for in terms of info and missing shapes. It seems ot have got burried at the bottom of the pile of posts.James.

Forget V1.1.
You need v2 (modernen.zip) and the update V3 (modeng3.zip)You will have to uninstall v1.1 before installing V2 and V3Regards,David

Jan-09-02, 12:04 PM (EST) 23. "RE: ModernEngland 3 - Problems" LAST EDITED ON Jan-09-02 AT 12:06 PM (EST)That's good news but I have my doubts they will be going back to the .org site having only just left it due to the costs involved becoming unmanageable - a problem we have seen many sites face recently. Looking at their forum it seems evident that the route is to be uploaded to UKtrainsim and that their present site is to be used for the virtual railway company only. It is also mentioned that the virtual railway is looking for a new home - geocities is mentioned.Bill

>BillThis is what Gerald Morris wrote to me yesterday:"Good News regarding NWtrains and website.
The website is now at http://northwesttrains.bravepages.com
This gives me 250mb of website instead of the 50mb that was the maximum on the old web server which was soon eaten up by the route files.
This will change within the next 7days to the
http://www.nwtrains.orgwhen the domain change is completed. The routes will be put up on UKTrainsim.comAndy Malcolm is arranging that the has a broadband connection, luckly bloke. So every thing should be back to normal within 10-14 days, I hope."I hope this clarifies the situation.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
