From the Cascades summit in the direction of Eugene the route is fantastic--the trees are fantastic; however, going in the opposite direction you soon run into pine trees: these textures are sub-standard compared to the spruce and fir textures (realistic); moreover, the further you travail towards Klamath falls the sparser the vegetation. In other words it becomes very dull; however, I have spent some hours overcoming some of the problems by replacing the pine trees with the more realistic spruce and fir. This was done by renaming the spruce texture/shape files to those of the pine trees and one or two other riff-raff trees. To illustrate what I have done to improve the Cascades, I will show you some screenshots: the first four displaying the horrible pines, the next three displaying the beautiful photo realistic spruce and fir, the ninth will show what the area around diamond lake use to look like, and the remaining six will show the marked improvement after the changes in the same area.Mike

So, Mike, does this mean we can hope for some kind of patch from you to improve things for all of us? - Matt D.

Uh, Mike. There is no reason at all to change the trees on Cascade Crossing. I've railfanned it before, it's perfect. I highly recommend not touching it. Those trees aren't proper for that area. MLT did the job as good as it gets... no need to mess it up.

I agree with everyone else.Pines in arid areas can look pretty nasty.Through the screens I've seen,MLT has captured this are quite nicely;as always.

Hi; I don't want to get derogatory here, but I think that is what happened to Whitefish3. It was changed into a very pretty route, but not too realistic. I don't think people who have ever been to particular places realise what the terrain is really like.I'm for realisim, no matter how drab.Cheers, All! Chuck F.

RE: A bold decision to improve the Cascades

Hi Guys,First of all the Cascades is a commercial route, so I'm not sure whether I could upload a modification to it; you wouldn't want me to go to jail now would you?I was merely illustrating and sharing what I have done to the route to give it more interest: I can't stand two hours of seeing nothing but nothing. If it ain't got good trees. I ain't interested.I also tweaked the size of the spruce.s file, and firtree3.s file just to give them that extra bit of stately appeal. The frame rates dropped by one or two FPS.BTW did you see all them floatin trees? and what happened to the CD sleeve, and no booklet--just a CD!What's next? Well that water has to go, and perhaps massive re-forestation when I have the time.Don't get me wrong! One half of the route is fabulous, but the other...Mike

Why do you need a CD sleeve, you have the CD case? And why would you need a booklet, you have documentation files with the route?CB

If you want to change things for your own use, no one is going to complain, but trying to upload it would create problems for you with the copywrite that is most likely attached. Not a good Idea. cheers,
Ernie

I really don't know what everyone is getting all up tight for. He did this to his own copy, which he bought himself. That entitles him to do whatever the hell he wants with it, so long as it stays on his system. If he wants to tear all the tracks up and re-do the route, so be it. Hes not forcing any of you to do the same. You guys are really being prototype nazi's here.

Yah but when their perspective turns into personal insults... I think its somewhat un-warranted.
