Aug-12-01, 11:17 PM (EST) "Essex turn collisions" This is a humbling hobby. Just when you think you know what you're doing...Anyway, I have a report that a signal problem at the west end of Coram siding has led folks using my new Essex Turn activity to head out into what they think is a clear track, based on signal indication, only to run smack into an autorack train (autos showing up soon at a used car dealer near you). Same thing happened to one of my testers before I uploaded the activity, but I thought a start time adjustment for the AI train would take care of it. Guess again. If anyone here is running this activity and has a similar experience, please post it so I can look at what needs to be done to revise it.Thanks for any reports.flarrfan Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Essex turn collisions" I don't have the collison problem but I do have a problem with the first drop off, once i do it and place it real close to the bumper I still don't get it listed as done? should I shove it all the way into the bumper ( attempting NOT to DERAIL)RR Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 06:35 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Essex turn collisions" There is no message to say that a setout or pickup has been completed. It should indicate complete on your evaluation details. Activity designers walk a fine line between too much pop-up info and not enough. My activities give you directions on completing a task but it is up to you, not the program, to determine if you have done it correctly. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 10:21 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Essex turn collisions" I understand the pop-up issue. To many is a pain, but a few are good. Especially if they are like a radio message from the dispatcher. But I think what we are refering to here is the 'F11 Work Order' does not update the status. This is where I usually go to look for a 'Done' status. In Essex Turn, the first two;Drop Off West Coram
Pick Up Essex Pit Siding 2Do not update with a 'Done' Status, all the other Drop Offs and Pick Ups do properly update as soon as they are finished. Of course at the 'End of Activity' the Evaluation does show that all has been completed. As per my saved Evaluation that I posted prior

Aug-13-01, 07:05 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Essex turn collisions" By the way, after the incident report from the tester and before uploading to my web site, I put the following in my readme file and directed d/l'ers at the top of the file to be sure to read the IMPORTANT OPERATION NOTE. Did anybody see it?"IMPORTANT OPERATION NOTE---
The AI paths and start times are designed for typical users. If you take more or less time with your West Coram switching, there is a potential for signal issues. One tester has reported a faulty signal at the east end of Coram siding (about a mile beyond the industry track where you make your setout). If you have not seen a westbound autorack train before, during or after your West Coram switching, and you get a yellow signal at this point, you should wait a few minutes for the rack train to arrive. If you have any other issues with this activity, please e-mail me at kentlw@yahoo.com and let me know." Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Gonna try again.

Everybody at the inn enjoyed the cab tour, even if they had to walk a bit after I got the activity ended note Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Aug-13-01, 08:19 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Essex turn collisions" My activities are posted on my website at http://overseasrailroad.railfan.net/flarrfanI have not received any collision reports on any of my other long haul activities, although you will need a coupler break fix (e.g., editing eng and wag files) to run the Pig Train activity. The only other anomaly is that a couple of users have reported red boards that change to clear upon reversing the player train a few feet. This appears to be an in-game signal issue. Aug-14-01, 07:12 AM (EST) 10. "RE: Coupler fix" LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-01 AT 07:36 AM (EST)Open your Trainset folder in the Trains folder within the main Train Sim folder. You'll see more folders representing all your cars and engines. In each of these folders is a file, .eng for the locos and .wag for the cars. You must open the .eng and .wag files with WordPad (NOT Notepad). About 10-15 lines down from the top is a line for Coupler Break values. There are two identical combinations of numbers and letters in this one line, both beginning with 1.1. I have eliminated the breaking coupler bug on the Marias Pass route by editing 1.1 to 5.1 in both places in the same coupler break value line. By establishing an editing routine, you can make all the changes in 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of downloaded cars and engines you have added to the default rolling stock. The downside is it will be almost impossible for your train to break apart from poor handling in other places on the route, though there is ongoing debate as to how realistically this feature is modeled in the sim. The upside for me is being able to run the entire route, either track, without that dreaded message "Activity Ended" which the uncoupling bug--not my train handling--caused in several places on Marias, most notably 1088.9 east of Cutbank and 1152.2 at Marias, both on the north track. Aug-26-01, 03:26 PM (EST) 12. "head on collision" have been running the marias pass road freight second edition and have encountered a head on collision with the autorack train. I get a red signal between milepost 1162 and 1163 past java but usually run smack dab into the autorack train before i get to the signal. any answers.
