I have the full version of routecontrol and have installed train store. My question is, now that I have read the train store manual, is what's the difference. I have my routes packed by route control so what is to gain by converting to train store? Thanks for the input.

RE: RouteControl vs Train Store

Hi Sharon,Route Control compresses the route to save space.Train Store removes and stores unneeded consists, eng, wag and route key files to make MSTS think there is less stuff installed.
This makes MSTS load faster and have less stuff taking up memory.Derek

RE: RouteControl vs Train Store

Route Control can do things Train Store can't and vice versa. I have both of them and I'm very happy with each.

RE: RouteControl vs Train Store

Hi,Just a word of caution. I am not really sure but I suspect that they will only work together if you respect what each of them does. RouteControl, I think, operates by packing up files and swapping the Routes into and out of one physical Route folder. Train Store operates by not changing your MSTS folders configuration, but swapping files into and out of storage.People have commented that they work together, but it may be that, because of the relative speed of RouteControl and Train Store, they are using Train Store to speed up their MSTS on the Routes they use frequently, and RouteControl to pack up and store Routes that they don't often use.If you follow this approach, and use 'UnStore Everything!' in train Store before attempting to swap a Route in RouteControl then there should be no problems.I am not sure, whether just Unstoring and Preparing just the RouteControl Route in Train Store, before swapping it in RouteControl would be good enough. (RouteControl may remove Consists or Stock that affect other Routes' Activities which might be partially stored in Train Store - but I don't know this.)I think you are likely to have problems if, after you have used Train Store (and some items are in Train Store's storage), you then swap a Route with RouteControl. The reason for this is that any items which are in the Train Store storage, would not be seen by RouteControl, and so would not be removed by RouteControl. They would be left behind, potentially to be mixed up with files from the route swapped in by RouteControl (into the same physical folder). Please Note: There is a difference between 'Everything Unstored!' and all Routes being InUse in Train Store.See http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/16972.html#4

RE: RouteControl vs Train Store

Tony
I think the penny just dropped.
I think from reading this post, I understand how my bodidly route is now thinking it is FBL2.
I must have swappped the two in Route Control and not had one of them unstored first.
I'm a little thick but it is starting to make sense and I may now be able to undo the mess.
Thanks for your constant monitoring of our progress.

Hi Doug,
ThanksNo problem, I have just replied to your query in the NERR forum listing out what I think the steps are. I hope that's useful.

RE: RouteControl vs Train Store

A further piece of input. From what I have been told about RouteControl, there should be no problems as long as, before swapping the RouteControl Route in Route Control, you either Unstore the Route using the Prepare function in Train Store, or you use the 'Unstore Everything!' function in Train Store. Either method will allow you to swap the RouteControl Route without any problems. You must use one of these before swapping, otherwise you are likely to have problems.I will see if I can introduce some additional warning or interlocking in the next version of Train Store.
