I understand that the basic routes included with MSTS must be left intact to use various add on routes from the internet. Can I remove the files for routes such as Kicking Horse, Sandpatch, ProRail without compromising MSTS. I know about Train Store and am using it, but until I add my second hard drive I really want to get some more space freed up on my hard drive for now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Some of these commercial add-on routes like KHP came with uninstall. I would check your start menus for uninstall options or look in the root directory of the route for an uninstall icon and try to use those first before a wholesale delete. Then use wholesale delete to remove the remnants.Hank

You don't even have to have the defaults installed, just move them to the routes folder when you need to copy files from them for an add-on route you're installing.

RE: Removal of Add On Routes

Hi everyone ! I just recently bought and installed MSTS and I love it so far. I have a question that is along the lines of this topic involving uninstalling default routes. I have installed Marias Pass, Northeast Corridor, and Settle Carlisle Line. The only one I really use is Marias Pass. How do I uninstall the other two so I can save some disk space ? Thanks,
Lee

RE: Removal of Add On Routes

download Train Store and store the routes.
My MSTS boots up in 9 seconds flat and the routes that are not stored show up in the menu

RE: Removal of Add On Routes

While Train-Store will help MSTS load faster and I use and like it, it doesn't do a thing for saving disk space. You can remove any of the default routes you don't want, but doing so will greatly impede your ability to add new freeware routes available on this site because they often need components from the original routes for their installation. For a new user it would be better to keep all of the default routes installed if you plan to add other third party routes. It will take up more disk space, but it will greatly simplify your MSTS life in other ways when adding new routes.

RE: Removal of Add On Routes

What I do in order to hide unused routes is to simply rename the TRK file into "settleca.trk.tem", for example. This way, the route in question will not be shown in the selection menu.

RE: Removal of Add On Routes

Thanks everyone. Since I'm really new using MSTS I appreciate the advice. My main reason for asking was conerning disk space. My favorite railroad has always been Chessie/CSXT, because I live in CSX country. I have the Sandpatch Route on order and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. So, I thought I'd get the two routes out that I won't use. I've never downloaded a route from the site yet, but I have gotten some great locos, and rolling stock. I'd like to express my thanks to all of those who make downloads available. Thanks again to all...
