There are some s files that SFM won't work on.
Examples are the new SD&A coach and the NALW F40.
What's different about these s files?
Thanks

RE: Shape File Manager question...

Shieldsy, seems to me one "limiting" factor may be the complexity of the model. Using SFM to simply alter texture names called upon - for example to install a "lean" second unit in the same folder with a different .ace refelcting a different road number, but otherwise sharing all other .ace files, sounds and cabview - can already "mess up" the shape file so that you get the UiD error when trying to load the engine or car. Recent example that caught me: The highly detailed Port Stanley and London interurban by W.A. Campbell, of which I recently wanted to add a repainted .ace with a second roadnumber and the shape turned-around so that the rear panto would go up to the wire. No chance. This is one of the complexest 3D models around, featuring something like 30 different object groups, with each detail from snowplow to pantograph being defined as a group object of its own. The idea behind this is that shine, brigthness etc of each of these groups can be tailored individually. Downturn is that already the decompressing of the shape file in SFM - without implementing any other change - would mess up the shape on my system, as I found out when trying to get this repaint running. I ended up with duplicating the entire folder and installing my new road number with unaltered shape.I assume there might be other causes than just the comlexity, so this really is not more than my proverbial 2 cents worth of an opinion.Lukas a.k.a Swissie

RE: Shape File Manager question...

I have found that while SFM may not de-compress a .s file, Route Riter will. I just tried it on the SDAcoach, and it de-compressed OK.

Uncompressed ok but I couldn't get sfm to shine it. Got send/don't send with the file it produced.

RE: Shape File Manager question...

I'm having difficulties with Shape File Manager. After downloading and unzipping the file, I cannot open it. I get 3 different Internet Explorer Script errors as follows: syntax error, "FSO" undefined, and object expected. I've downloaded it twice, thinking I got a bad d/l, but the results are the same. I'm running MSIE 6 with SP1. Any suggestions? Thanks,
MC

RE: Shape File Manager question...

What version of SFM are you running. I only ask because I have just run SFM over the SDACoach with no problems, I am running SFMv2.3x on winXPPro.mervyn@madasafish.com

Finally got sfm to shine up the SDACoach. Not sure what the problem was. Maybe I wasn't I wasn't waiting long enough for dos window to work, or opening a few s files with Route Riter jogged something back in place. Anyway I now have a nice match for the SDA Doodlebug.MasterChief,
As I was fooling around with SFM, I noticed this in the readme:"Requires IE5.5 or higher with windows scripting options loaded.
NOTE : some anti virus software may report the file SFM.HTA as a virus."Could relate to your problem.John

RE: Shape File Manager question...

Thanks, John. (Beautiful coaches, by the way.) I didn't have any virus alerts, but I'll look into loading the "windows scripting options." Anybody know how I can load these? I've looked around in IE6 Options, found a reference to "debugging scripts," but nothing else.As to the version I'm trying to run, I don't know- whatever version is currently on their website. http://www.railpage.org.au/steam4me/trainsim/tutorials/sfm_faq.htmlI've e-mailed the gentleman who runs this site, but have yet to receive a response.Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,MC

RE: Shape File Manager question...

There is also an option to enable 3rd party plugins, that may help. The guy that wrote it has a web site at http://www.highworth.freeuk.com/ The latest version is also there.mervyn@madasafish.com
