I grew up in Washington, DC, and was taken, (at an EXTREMELY young age), to see the wreck of the Federal Express in 1953, where the train crashed through the floor of the station. I have been enjoying the realistic activities on the roads I have played, but I wondered if anyone makes activities of real accidents? Not with any serious harm to people, just if the simmer could control the accident differently.Annabelle

RE: Activities.

Being a baby (!) I don't remember all the details, but they did cut the engine up into 3 pieces, hauled it out, and rebuilt it somewhere else. Some people were hurt, but nobody died. I remember they told me the engineer blew the horn for a long time and they were able to empty most of the terminal. I think it was coming from the North for something to do with Eisenhower. Apparently when a brakeman re-coupled the train he did something wrong, and there were no brakes. The reason I remember it is that at the time my Grandmother, who was raised in Danville, Virginia, remembered when there was a bad accident with a train, (she said it was Casey Jones, but I don't know), and one of the cars was filled with canaries and they all escaped all over town! Now there's a scenario for MSTS.Annabelle

RE: Activities.

It was a GG1 powered train that came into Washington Union Station just a bit faster than it should. The GG1 crashed into the terminal and through the floor. The amazing thing was NO ONE GOT HURT. There are several resources to learn about this amazing wreck. And this may send you down memory lane Annabell...http://www.dcnrhs.org/union_wreck.htmhttp://www.thejoekorner.com/rrfolklore/fedexp.shtmhttp://www.steamlocomotive.com/GG1/prr4876-crash.htmlBobFlorida Railfan Page

RE: Activities.

I've actually been working (on and off) on an activity where you run the Federal Express the day *before* the wreck, using accurate timetables and consists, including information gleaned from the ICC accident report. The NEC2.0 version is just about finished--I would just need to write a README for it. Of course, since NEC4 came out, I've been toying with doing a version for that...Either way, it'll need a LOT of add-ons to run. After all, it's hard to have the illusion of 1953 when you're passing Dash-9s hauling double-stack intermodals...RDF

RE: Activities.

I would really be interested in an activity like that. Don't worry about the time, by the time it's ready I might actually be able to download and run it!Annabelle
