I have three installs of MSTS, and will soon have one for each of my 10 routes if I can fix this problem. One of my installs is the standard default, one has all of my add-ons, and one has only Marias Pass and some BNSF and CN add-ons. I have shortcuts to all of them except the default on my desktop. The folder with only Marias is currently named just "Train Simulator" for the following reason: If I try to name it something else (i.e. Marias Pass), then when I try to run either the editor or the game itself, I get the following message: Failed to locate a required file in your installation. You may need to re-install Train Simulator. I re-name it back to just "Train Simulator" and it works fine. My other two folders are obviously named something else other than "train simulator" and they both work fine. Any help on the subject would be appreciated.

RE: A slight problem...

Sam,Train Store will only show the rolling stock that is needed by the routes and activities you have loaded. That's why it works so well in improving the loading time. If you want more rolling stock to show when you are making an activity etc., create a consist that has that rolling stock in it an put it in your explore route consist list. I have a consist for each route that has all the rolling stock I want to use in that route when I make an activity. I have it listed in the explore route list so I can load it with that route when I want to make an activity. Works like a dream.RegardsEric

RE: A slight problem...

When you write..."explore route consist list"...just what are you referring to? Don't ALL consists in the (sub folder)Consist Folder of the Trains Folder load all the time, even with the Train Store Program?BTW, I have not tried Train Store yet.

RE: A slight problem...

Train Store only loads those consists and trainsets that are being used by the activity of activities you have "loaded". All the other consist files are "stored" in a consist folder in the Train Store folder. Train Store also "stores" the .wag and .eng files of all the rolling stock that is not being used by the activity or activities you have loaded. (The sim checks all these files when it loads.) This greatly reduces the loading time of the sim. There are two ways of loading more trainsets and consists using Train Store. The first is to use the maintaince part to the program, which will load every consist and trainset you have installed or second to use the explore mode consists list to only load those consists (and trainsets) you want. The explore mode consists list is a list where you can choose additional consists to be loaded in addition to the consists that are needed to run the selected activity or activities.I make up a consist that contains all the trainsets I want to use in making an activity for a particular route and load it using the explore mode consists list. This can be used to get around the two many consists problem.

RE: A slight problem...

Not to be rude to the creator of Train Store or it's fans, but does anybody have any ideas about my original question?

You can ONLY have ONE installation of train-sim called TRAINSIMULATOR
all of the others MUST be named differently. with me so far? if you want to use the editors or any utilites I.e. route control, routeriter .ect.ect then you will have to rename the folder trainsimulator to something elese then the folder you want to work with you then name it TRAINSIMULATOR then your tools will work. Do a serch for grandpaoz and you'll get a tutorial on how to do what your wanting to do. NOW if you would only get trainstore you would not have any of these problems i have 32 routes, 678 loco's 1729 wagons,500 and something activitys and my sim loads like lighting download it READ the MANUEL follow the instructions and never look back :0 jester

>I.e. route control, routeriter then you will have to rename the folder trainsimulator Not so.Both will work fine with multiple installs. In Route Control use Options to show which of the installs you want it to check. In Route Riter alter the MSTS path on the Files tab.Having said that I will add my support for Train Store. Gone from 20+ individual MSTS installations to 1.Billformerly known as downside until my profile disappeared

RE: A slight problem...

Another advantage of Train Store is that you only have one consist folder and one trainset folder so that you can use Activity Analysis to search for wagons and engines that are in folders that have different names than an activity is looking for (and update the activity) so that you dont't to do manual searchs in different folders to find them. Also you don't have to have multiple copies of consists and trainsets because you use them in different routes. You only have to update one file instead of many, you only need one set of alias files etc, etc etc.RegardsEric

What’s with this non threaded comment of "AA" from Bill "Nerr". What the hell is AA? So many people post comments without thinking. It’s quite pathetic.
