After I've changed the engine in a player consist with Conbuilder, I get "unknown" showing in the locomotive window when I highlight that particular activity in the Route and Activity selection screen. Can anyone tell me how I can get my selected locomotive to show, thanks> John.

I've got that UNKNOWN before but I forgot how I fixed it. But the train still works and runs normally.
------My favourite LUL train------ HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore. It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

Unknown AND Unwanted
Hello! Me too! This can be very frustrating! I think this error comes from changing an engine on a consist made "default" or expected by a Service. Such a consist could “consist” of just that particular locomotive. My similar situation had to do with the Dash 9. I’d complicated my transgression by also having (like most of us) MANY versions of a “default” (no longer) Dash 9. To get myself in this situation, using the MSTS Activity Editor, I changed the engine on a consist in an activity, then on the way out of the CONSIST editor, I hit “OK” (=save and overwrite) on the SERVICE Editor thereby causing the “universally” unknown locomotive which did not fit in consists (in the accidentally changed service) it was “supposed to.”Solution? If this is your circumstance find that “unknown” locomotive and see if it is one of those default locomotives. See if you can ascertain what locomotive is to appear in which service. Make it so! (Open and fix the activity where the unknown locomotive soldier keeps rearing its unwanted head.)Respectfully jivajiva

RE: Unknown AND Unwanted
I have had this also. Usually when I look at the consist in CB I didn't reset the numbers above the cars to start with 1, or 0 in the updated CB.Kevin Arceneaux DEFAULT IS FOR DUMMIES Lone Wolf Activities Forum on www.3DTrains.com

RE: Engine does not show.
Hi,One of the few places that MSTS is case-sensitive, is the Activity Selection screen. The place where you select the engines and get that "Unknown". Most of the time it is caused by a case unmatch in the names. Check the .con file and check if the cases are the same as in the folders and .eng file.Dick van den Hoven
