I am a big fan of railroads that that have street trackage in large cities or industrial areas and serve quite a few businesses & industries in those areas. Are there any MSTS routes that offer that sort of thing? Thanks,
John

I think he means street trackage, not just crossings. I think he's reffering to the kind of running found at Jack London Square in Oakland.

thats exactly what I mean, you hit the nail on the head! Street trackage refers to rr tracks that are embedded in the street. Today very few of those lines are still electrified, and in some cases these lines never were electrified, sometimes it was nesessary for the railroad to share the space with cars on the road so the railroad could get to an industrial customer. (which without the street trackage, wouldn't have any service.) If you live in St. Louis, MO (like me) or have visited here & have been down by the river front, then you know about the spider web of street trackage down there.(StL is a perfect example.) I think I might create my own MSTS route comprised mostly of street trakage & heavy industrial switching thats roughly based on the St. Louis area. What do you-all think??? Thanks,
John

What I ment by tell me what you-all think was give me some feed back, weather its a good idea or not, and some ideas on possible industries.
The route will be located on 2 tiles and will be aproximately 1 1/2 miles long with lots of industries.

Funny you mention JL Sq. as it's exactly what I'm working on. My emphasis is on the WP, not SP, but of course the WP went right down the middle of 3rd st, about 1.25 miles, serving customers on both sides of the street the whole way. To look right I am setting the SP track that parallels the WP, but I know much less of it so it'll be harder to do. My objective is cover the 1st sub from Oakland to Stockton. Not entirely sure if I want to do the WP to San Jose.I'm using the WP's own documentation for track and customers in the area, ca. 1955. So far I've built most of of the 6 subyards along the inner harbor, the crossing of the SP, and I'm throwing track down 3rd street now.But it's a long, long way from being complete.Dave Nelson

Yeah, about my street trackage route, I'm laying track now, but I can't get it to stay in the street. How do I do that? Thanks for your help!

>N&JC, Teemu has done a fantastic job.
>You won't get larger cities or more industries than that. I dunno, in one tile of my route, there's nearly 1500 objects... a medium-sized yard, complete with an intermodal facility, and a medium-sized town. In RE, with a full view of the tile, I have 4 FPS, with a 2 GHZ Celeron, much better than the .5 FPS my old 566 mhz Celeron did. lol Maybe I just went a little overloaded on detail...------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 12
