LAST EDITED ON Mar-11-03 AT 08:13 AM (EDT)

PLEASE! Split up SeaView download files!!I tried it 5 times now. Every time with an interruption while downloading. It's a mess when you've downloaded more than half of the 63MB! (It took 2 1/2 hour for a complete download!) Resuming interrupted downloads was unsuccessful because unzipping and installing of the completed file ended with some error-messages every time.Download-files should not be bigger than appr. 20 MB!!PLEASE do me an propably lots of others a favour: upload seaview3 in splitted files again. I REALLY would like to have it too!! But there's no chance as long the fil is as big as it is now.Full of hope...Woelferl

RE: Attn. Bill Burnett and SeaView-team!

Gives me an idea, Woelferl !Having the same problems here in the U.K., I am expecting a CD with the SEAVIEW-III shortly (minus the Doodlebug glitch and including other minor fixes). If Bill Burnett is agreeable, could Re-Zip it into 3 more manageable parts and put them into my Web Site's DOWNLOAD section ? 20 Mb should download in less than an hour at 7 Kb.p.sec ? Disconnect from the Internet after each Download and start a new Online Session for the next one !If that is on then I shall post a new Message letting the Forum know !My INSTALL the N.&.J.C. advice in this Thread also applies basically, not needing XTracks though:
http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/16645.htmlHowever, my ZIPPED versions should be easier to Install than the N.&.J.C. ! O t t o.

RE: Attn. Bill Burnett and SeaView-team!

What ISP are you using Owain ! Mine is B.T. Openworld, no call charges but limited to Online Sessions lasting no longer than 2 hours Off-Peak. That gives me a max. of 49 Mb at an average of 7 Kb.p.sec.Got WS_FTP_PRO and another one. Makes no difference if I can not stay online for more than 2 hours, getting timed out before a large file download has finished. Do not like some of these utilities which are supposed to carry on later after I have started another 2 hour max. session with my ISP. How do they know where precisely the large ZIP Download aborted, the Checksums at both ends probably being different due to long distance time lags and many routers involved ? I would not want to waste my time trying ! O t t o

RE: Attn. Bill Burnett and SeaView-team!

Otto..
I have been using DAP for a while now and in 99% of cases it has done the job correctly. I think you should try the freeware version (which I have) on a couple of files and find out for yourself...
I think those download systems just allow an overlap of a few kb's on restart to ensure nothing is lost at 'resume'..but I'm probably wrong!!!

Otto,From a man of technology I am *AGAST*.The retry facility has been a part of web servers for 8 years or so.
I have used getright, DAP and am now on FlashGet as it causes less errors with my IPchains firewall.Get into the year 2000 man, get a download manager.Derek

RE: Attn. Bill Burnett and SeaView-team!

I used to use Flashget, when i was on that ancient dial up system! I don't think it does much, maybe a little quicker. The main problem is ISPs that drop u after 2 hours, which seems fairly commonplace. The year 2000 should have broadband as standard.David
