RE: Updating Video Card

LAST EDITED ON Mar-11-03 AT 04:27 AM (EDT)

If you are planning to spend some big bucks, I would go for the nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4600 or Ti 4800 at 128MB of Ram or Radeon ATi 9700. They are both good cards and it starts at $250 and up depending where you are. I got a nVidia GeForce4 Ti4800 at 128MB of ram for $265 from Dell last month. I think I got my money's worth and I'm very happy with it. It works very well with my system for MSTS.
If you're on a budget , you can get a good card like lower end of GeForce4 card with 64MB of ram. It will do your performance OK. But, it depends on your route and details. I can't speak for Radeon cards cuz I never had them. Also, it depends what kind of AGP or PCI slots you have in your machine. Might have to do a little research with the people( or dealer)where you bought your pc from. They might be able to help you.
Don't take my word for it. Someone else might have a different opinions for different video card. Ken Archived thread - Read only Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 1

RE: Updating Video Card

I just bought a GeFORCE-4 MX-440-SE 64MB(PCI) and it work great with all my MSTS addons as well as custom routes. I have a very large collection of consists and everything works well so far. The price was
$99.99 (US). I don't think there is a need to get a high end video card for 2 or 3 hundred dollars unless you are going to do a lot of video work or other things that justify the expense. Save your money and buy more trains sims! Buck & Lap Dog Susie Q

(hence the price)Also, a nice video card will improve anything dealing with 3D graphics. Personally, I would recommend the Radeon 9700 Pro. It's the fastest card out. You can get them as low as $325.
