LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-03 AT 03:17 PM (EDT)

Here are three screenshots of a "little" derailment I deliberately executed west of Shelby. The cause was entering the branchline at 78mph. As the screeshot show, the locomotive stopped so quickly that the rear end was lifted into the air and continued rising until the locomotive was literally standing on it's nose! While standing in this impossible position, the locomotive rotated slowly for a few seconds before crashing onto its side. Jonathan Nikiforovs.

>yea how do you manage to flip a locomotive. Thats a new one. I've seen a few locomotives doing cartwheels. I have a suspicion that it's not prototypical behaviour, but it's fun!Mostly it's the diesels which do that, I don't remember seing a steamer cartwheeling.John

RE: Screenshots of an impossible derailment

I've had some nice crashes with steamers, also, but not cartwheels. Those I've only seen with diesel though I expect an electric loco could do it.I have one steamer whose tender does some really spectacular "dancing" when it derails - sometimes getting ahead of the loco then bouncing back onto the track to knock the loco over. This even happens when there's a train behind.Generaly speaking, to get a cartwheeling loco seems to need it to be running light. Once there's a train behind, the back end seems to be less inclined to go head over heels.cheersJohn

Go About 80 m.p.h. and enter a sharp curve or a siding, I got a train to flip ALL the way over! I've also got it to stay on it's nose and stay there!

RE: Screenshots of an impossible derailment

Lobser:Man, that is an awsome crash!!!! Try it agin with a long train next time and see what happens! Just as a question, I think the reason TSM doesn't have thoes nice firey crashes it because of thoes terriost attacks. Same with Flight simulator, no more good crashes any more! I wonder if there is some sort of file out on the internet that adds fire and chaos to already cool crashes!

HAPPY NOW? It's not moving anymore.
It's still the same train but in another livery, that's all.

RE: Screenshots of an impossible derailment

I've deliberately done a few derailments just for the hell of it and to watch the metallic carnage. Is there a way to set up MSTS to allow longer viewing of derailments? Or to set up MSTS to allow longer "railfan" views of passing trains?

RE: Screenshots of an impossible derailment

Its quite easy to do though there is no right way to do it. I've flipped a GP9, sw1500, and a couple of SD40-2's before, all by accident. It just happens.Looks Like a Pony Screenshots of an impossible derailment – image 7 RUNS LIKE A STALLION
