I've recently been trying to install Xtracks in conjunction with the Newark and Jersey City Railroading package, however, every time I try to load MSTS with the modified Global folder, the Microsoft Error Message pops up. If anybody has had the same problem or has an idea as to how I can resolve it, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.William McGuinnessFor without your whistle blowing,

RE: Xtracks and XP

The problem with Xtracks is not XP. It is xtracks itself. I have avoided it since having bad problems myself with the default routes after installing it.Having said that, it obviously works for some people. But I would be a little wary of xtracks routes unless you are are a PC wizkid! LOLDavid

RE: Xtracks and XP

There is NO PROBLEM with XTracks 3.3 whatsoever if it is Installed according to the Instructions supplied with it.MSTS Routes not requiring the XTracks Special Points / Switches carry on as usual. But the N.&.J.C. needs them.Have another go !

RE: Xtracks and XP

I have sometimes had trouble trying to replace a file that has a read-only attribute. If this is the case unchecking this might solve your problem. I have xp and XTracks and have no problems.

I'll third that. No trouble with 3.3 on XP. Make sure you've read Okrasa's extensive documentation on how to install. I read them three times to make sure I knew what I was doing. I'm a relative dummy in that aspect of MSTS.

RE: Xtracks and XP

No issues with XP, just follow the install instructions by the letter and you should have no problem. Or it could be you have another route that has made some changes to the global folder (Chicago Elevated?) that is not feeling well after XTracks installation.David; sound like you are still in versions 1 & 2. Those had some major problems with the defaults routes but that has since version 3.0 been solved. Now there are still some issues if you are building a route using RE but there are solutions to that which only need be applied once.

Not completly on topic.. but changes made in global-folder, consist,
or trains, or anything else in MSTS, wil do havoc on saved activity's
but then again thats on my system, and some routes seem to have more troubles than others with changesGreets Henk.

RE: Xtracks and XP

You should have a file called TSECTION.DAT - 331 Kb - 05-25-02 in the \GLOBAL\ Folder. It's the Version XTracks needs and is supplied with it !

RE: Xtracks and XP

Otto, you're using an older version of XTracks.
Version 3.3 is from September, 3.2 from July (I think).
Then you have the newest tsection.dat (to date) build #10 that is from October and could also be used with any version 3.* of XTracks.

RE: Xtracks and XP

Thanks for pointing that out, Okrasa ! Thought, looking at that date, that it was rather old. I had to do a re-build of my WIN 98SE, got the 3.3 Update but somehow managed to get the previous TSECTION back into \GLOBAL\ ?Will make sure it's on my new WIN-XP as well !

RE: Xtracks and XP

Hello. I've had similar problems with Xtracks on an XP system. Got gobs of memory (512M) and disk (120G) , but every time I replace the standard tsection.dat file with the version 10 file, Train Sim stops... Put back the original file --- works. I've even gone so far as to uninstall Train Sim, deleted any remaining files and cleaned out the registry with regedit. With a fresh install --- as soon as I substitute the tsection.dat file, everything stops. As far as I can tell, Xtracks is ignored until the updated tsection.dat file is loaded. Any help would be appreciated!

RE: Xtracks and XP

Might be a good idea to use OKRASA's September version of the TSECTION.DAT and not the Version-10 downloadable from the File Library. My N.&.J.C. works great on both my WIN 98 SE and WIN XP machines. Blazingly fast on the latter !

RE: Xtracks and XP

Have no idea why it should not work in XP and I do know others that run it in XP.
There's nothing in there that should matter as far as WIN version goes.
You're absolutely right about your observation that XTracks is ignored until the tsection.dat is changed, that's the easy way of changing between XTracks and default MSTS, swap tsection.dat files.
Are you running only default routes when you try this? MSTS and all routes running before installing the new tsection.dat, then add the tsection.dat without changing anything else and see if it still works. After that add new routes one by one and see if anyone causes a problem. Work you're way until you have isolated the step causing the problem and it will be easier to find it.

RE: Xtracks and XP

Thanks to everyone! I did a fresh install of just the stock routes to a new disk drive, and everything now works. MSTS and Xtracks must not have liked something in the old directory...Thanks again.
