The #80 has the as delivered E1 smooth number boards. The #84 has the F unit and later E unit style numberboards. Nice touch! Uh-oh The first porthole isn't silver like the Santa Fe E8M's were? I just had to find fault in an absolutely beautiful set. BTW, does that truss bridge on the Surfliner Route have the faded Ship and Travel Santa Fe slogan on it? I think the travel part was blacked out too, but can't be sure as I haven't seen it in years.Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 19

More accurately, the "Ship and Travel Santa Fe" would have been bright in the days the E8's hauled the San Diegan, and I-5 wasn't there then, only Pacific Coast Highway, which, if I remember correctly, was between the tracks and the shore cliff from Oceanside to San Clemente.
I know, I'm being too much of a "rivet-counter," and Marc was running these on the Surfliner! ADDED: Marc, sorry, I was being such a 'smart-a**' I forgot to compliment you on the E8's, which was my original intent on 'keying-up' here. Beautiful work!

When it comes to ATSF E units, I'm not the sharpest tack in the box. What's special about them to me is the texture work. Especially consdiering those are hand textures and not photo textures. All the more impressive. The other thing that I HOPE is special about them... is that maybe they signal that 3Dtrains is gettin' ready to start crankin' out some more 1st generation goodies????? Hope'a, hope'a, hope.

>It's up to you to figure out.
I only noticed 2 things differnt about the Warbonnet. 1. There is no red on the vent screen at all. 2. There seems to be a bend in the yellow stripe on the bonnet in an odd spot. Usually on the Super Chiefs the bend on the stripe is on the lower circle towards the front. On the one that Hack has pictured above show that there is a bend between the lower part of the warbonnet and the upper part of the warbonnet.Below is a screenshot below is actually one of my screenshots of an F7 unit because I don't own or have a bonnet like that one. The blue circle indicates where the bend in the yellow stripe is usually is on these units. The green circle indicates where Hack has the bend in the yellow stripe.

well that is a repaint i did on his freeware f-units sometime back. you can see below (even though it's a different engine model) that the curves on my repaint seem to be a little more accurate than Marc's.... his nose logo is also not correct compared to the prototype.... i dont wanna bash his work because i could neve model that carbody units that good, but making curves graphically aint easy...... my attempt took me several tries before i got itmy f and e-unit warbonnet repaintsPrevious Topic | Next Topic – image 42

It's pretty obvious that Bill's intent in that post was to promote his own product while at the same time demoting yours. I'm not a big 1st generation fan so I haven't purchased any of Marc's excellent equipment but this obvious bashing of his products was really uncalled for. Agreed. I have three of Marc's F packs, the ATSF F7 inculded. All are excellent. This attempt to further his skins by bringing down another modeler and skinner was unjustified and uncalled for. I'd take a Marc SuperPack any day. I've just lost all respect for Bill Hemb.

As a matter of fact, all I had origionally done was to ask what route that was. Actually, are the E-8Am's freeware was the intent. No, I don't follow the crowd. My dad makes me be like he was in the 50's and 60's, when he worked for the GN and saw E units. Now I figured out that my 2nd post made the trouble, along with the other posts saying I'm annoying. <I'm not getting mad, I've learned to keep my cool> (Mods: would you please delete message 23 and all after until this message, or messages about me being annoying or arguments about it)

Actually, you're the preferred moderater (to me, at least) right after Macster. And this was a test to show you that people who are annoying may not be as stupid as people think.

If there was one person I would agree with, its IcyFire. I do think we should drop the subject.

Bill was just pointing out a fact with photo evidence, I dont see how he is promoting his when there is also TA and Dick Cowen's units as well in warbonnet. This 'bug' has been present since the original F unit release, whether its due to the stretching/mapping or problem with the art is irrelevant. Regardless how can an issue be fixed if someone is stopped from speaking up.The F set (which i have from cajon) is good regardless of the problem with the warbonnet and the E units are good too.-----------------------------

I was tring to see if I got the question right on what is so special about these warbonnets and all I see is a another very pointless flame war. Why do the trolls have to ruin everything?

RE: What's so about these Warbonnets?

Prototypically, the warbonnet that Marc has created on his various units is correct. A perfect example of this type of warbonnet is the ATSF F7 #347 set at Sacramento. The warbonnet has the same broad curve in the warbonnet.BTW, I really wouldn't of commented at all to this thread if it weren't for our buddy Robert Learmont.AustinA Proud Supporter of the:

All your letter grades have a point system. 4 for A, 3 for B, 2 for C, 1 for D, and 0 for F. Then they add all these points up and divide them by however many letter grades there are and thats how you get your GPA.AustinA Proud Supporter of the:

Getting back to the point of this thread before it became a meaningless debate about grades... Nice F-ing units Marc! ...that never gets old... heh heh... oh..wait... they're E units...well it still applies! May I inquire as to the poly count of those bad boys? Your geometry looks smooth as all hell. heh heh I don't envy you having to unwrap that nose either... Keep up the super sweet work that you do man... Just stay away from 2nd and 3rd gen locos, I'll be outta work for sure... =|GoldenPig

>locos, I'll be outta work for sure... The loco's heavier than I would have liked, but depending on roof or plow details the count is between 8k~8.8k. I could optimize the windows some, and maybe save another 500 or so. And yes, the nose was a bugger - and is where a good portion of the polys are. I had to model it with mapping in mind before starting.
>Just stay away from 2nd and 3rd gen locos, I'll be outta work for sure...After seeing your work, you can bet I would think twice (perhaps three times) before doing so! Thanks for the comments. Coming from a modeler, such as yourself, means a lot. Cheers!
