East Coast Railroading Alternative History, Take One – image 1

Blame the alt-history for the Milwaukee Road if you want to. In the process of working with an alternative (read: completely bogus) history for some major East Coast systems, I've got a question or ten, and here's the first one:1. Since I don't know the Clinchfield's system---and can't know it, due to my current modem situation---can anyone tell me if it would have been a good acquisition for the N&W back in the mid-1960s? It seems that portions of the Clinchfield are rather close to the N&W as the crow flies in southwestern Virginia and northeast Tennessee, but I can't judge the soundness of a railroad merger like this. Thanks in advance for any replies; I've got several more, but I'll throw them out once I've got a "community consensus answer" to the issue at hand.
