Fix For running MSTS in Window

I have asked this before but I cannot find the reply, but MSTS crashes when I minimize it and when I try to run it in windowed mode.
What can I do to fix it. I want to participate in one of the multi player runs. How do I fix the problem?

Make a copy of the shortcut onto your desktop. Right click it and then click on properties. You will then get a box pop up with several type in boxes. You need the top one labelled Target. In this box you will find the command line that runs the sim normally. If you used the default installation it will look like this -- "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\launcher.exe" To make it run in a window you have to change the last part, mine looks like this -- Train Simulator\train.exe" -vm:w After making the changes to the command line close the window and click the desktop TS icon. It should now open in a window which can be minimised like any other.If that still don't work, then pressing Alt and Tab together will minimise TS to the taskbar, click on the taskbar icon to maximise again.

Nah when I tried that one I got the small MSTS startup screen where you can change drivers, play MSTS, or troubleshoot the game. So I played the game and when I minimized it, it still wrecked. Oh well I give up on it. Thanks for your help anyways

I've also typed in the train simulator.exe in a explorer window and it crashed also.

Make a new shortcut to train sim on your desktop - go to properties
like the picnotice the hightlighted target areait should be this"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\train.exe" -vm:wit should work then - make the game's resolution 1 notch lower than the desktop - ie i run at 1024X768 so i run the sim in 800X600 in windowed mode

I just recently had the same problem! It appears something in my registry got corrupted. What I did was rename my MSTS folder so nothing got overwritten. Then reinstalled MSTS to the original location, along with all updates. Then removed the new installed files (Or you can just rename these also if you want to be safe and remove after you confirm all else is ok!) Then rename the original folder back to the original installed location! Wal-la no more crashes and you don't lose anything!!

In order to reduce MSTS to the task bar in XP, exit out to the point where you can choose a route, then press the Windows logo key along w/ Tab, and MSTS goes to the taskbar at the bottom.
Then you can bring up explorer and go to an eng or wag file, make changes, save and minimize, and then bring up MSTS by clicking on it in the task bar.

Hey Guys,
All I do is hit the windows key on my keyboard, this brings you back to your desktop. I've used this for all my repaint projects or any other adjustments to anything. When you want to return to the Sim just click on the Train Sim in the toolbar. KRO52
