Mines come from the railroad i always loved and grew up on here in southern Arkansas the St. Louis Southwestern or Cotton Belt. And the 96 comes from 1996 the last year of existence for the Cotton Belt.Did You Know:
1. The Sept. 11 2001 tragedy is not the only tragedy to happen on that day. On Sept. 11, 1996 the Cotton Belt ceased to exist.
2. In Pine Bluff, AR, that is the only place where two southbounds can MEET EACH OTHER. I wonder who can figure that out.

BNSF 4794 was a brand-new C44-9W (Dash-9) which I got to start up one day down in the San Diego yard about 2 years ago. An engineer friend took me and another friend over to the engine storage tracks. There were about 10-12 various engines waiting to go light back up to LA. 4794 had been shut down, so I got to start it up.The funny thing was that I absolutely hated Dash-9's until that day, I thought they were funny looking. Now they're the coolest-looking engines around.. John Greenstone

I work on an Air Force bombing range, and LAHD Pop is commonly seen on line-up sheets. It stands for Low Angle, High Drag, Pop-up. I know it's got nothing to do with trains, but it was my nickname on the flight boards long before there was an MSTS, and my pea-brain isn't up to the task of remembering eight different nicknames...

>Mines come from the railroad i always loved and grew up on

>Cotton Belt. Seems we both like the Cotton Belt......(How'd I figure that one out?! ) Seriously, my great grandfather on my dad's mother's side (still with me?) of the family worked for the late, great SSW on the Waco-Gatesville branch, and a good portion of that time was a brakeman on the 260- the only Centercab on the SSW....That thing was a BIG son-of-a-gun, and if someone will make a model of it, I'll be your friend for life!A more appropriate name might have been milwsswMy grandad on my dad's side of the family was a brakie for the Milwaukee on the Trans-Missouri Division out of Mobridge, SD. His dad was a conductor on the same division and had 50+ years in when he retired...Thats when you get the gold pass, right? My grandad's uncle was an engineer for MILW.My family's model Railroad is the Milwaukee-Southwestern or MSW and the herald is a Milwaukee Road tilted shingle and a Cotton Belt Ginsaw merged together.Anyway, that's my dissertation for tonight....Hope I haven't bored you to death!Bradley Linda

Transcon??? Hmmm I forgot, oh wait now I remember...It's named after my www.Train-Sim.com/www.FlightSim.com file library s/n which is named after a FS2000 MSN Gaming Zone Virtual Airline that I joined so long ago, lol I think it's long since dead, lemme check.. yeah it's gone! I chose the name because it was easy to remember! lolMy old www.FlightSim.com download server name was like AFLACDuck2k or something to the same effect, I had that LONG before I ever heard of Train Simulator...I had the s/n because a lot of people called me "AFLAC" I don't know why... I guess because I sort of waddle when I walk! lol------------------------------------------------------------I'll never let go of the railroad that inspired me to be involved with trains, the Union Pacific!Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 9

In 1996 I had won a number of Sailing Championships and flirted with the idea of World Championships. At the time I was sailing a boat named Rocket.
When I changed boats to go further with my sailing, it was the first time a contendor for dual titles had arisen. As such I was labelled a Pioneer in my conquests. Consequently, the boat was named PioneerXI.
That label of explorer stuck with me through 6 Titles, and through the internet. I play in a naval WW2 submarine game where I continue to "pioneer" new advancements.Footnote: my new sailing boat is called Intimidator.

Ok, there is a little story behind my nick.Ok,
I live in Sydney, the place with those double deckers.
Now, way back in 1964, Tulloch Ltd. of Rhodes, NSW, Australia had the first of there cars used in Sydney's trains.
These were the FIRST of Sydney's double deckers. They also made 4 double deck power cars (that isn't my name reason but).
Tulloch lead the way for Sydney's double decker fleet.Anyway, on a hot summers day, there is nothing like a Tulloch built car, the look, the feel, the seating (132 thats the most of any of Sydney's doubel deckers), the AC you get from having all the windows open(includes door windows)+doors. They are just GREAT.Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 39 Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 40

RE: How'd You Come Up With Your Train-Sim Name

I live in NYC also, and I've always liked the subways. I literally grew up riding them(I started taking them to school when I was 13).I don't think there's much to say about my screen name. It's just my initials and year of birth. Probably the least original screen name around here, but it's what I use on all the message boards I post on. I would probably forget my screen names if I started using different ones for every message board.

I wanted some big company's name for my email address in hotmail. I took a phonebook and found Enocell, which is a big cellulose mill about ~25 miles from my home. I could smell it during very cold and calm winter days of last winter, or there was some kind of problem then...This was the best picture I found

RE: How'd You Come Up With Your Train-Sim Name

Uh...want me to explain the background of my screen name? Might be long ...has nothing to do with trains either, but here we go...Four or five years ago I started writing a novel...just for fun. I never got to finish it (no longer had the time when I needed to prepare for Abitur and all), but here's a brief synopsis. The entire story - as far as I elaborated it - was to span about 8,000 years, starting around the year 2,000 BC. At that time, the people of the distant world of Icashir were divided by a dissident movement. A civil war was narrowly averted when the dissidents decided to secede from their people and depart from their homeworld, never to be seen again.
The people of Icashir which remained on their homeworld lived on, and over the centuries made contact with several younger nations in space. The coexistence of these nations was for the most part peaceful. But one day they all would be challenged by an unknown race, more powerful than any ever seen. The First Nations of the Light, as they would be called in later periods, allied to defend themselves against this mysterious enemy which was superior to any of them. However, the war that resulted lasted from about 230 AD to 545 AD. Luckily, the Nations managed to fend off the invaders, which came to be known by the name of the T'ye'vás' (translating roughly as "Conquerors"). However, the price they paid was terrible - and, except for Icashir, all of these original Nations perished over the next few centuries from the consequences of this savage war. The people of Icashir were alone again, and would remain so for several centuries when they made contact with younger spacefaring nations.
At this point enters humankind. After the turn of the 21st century, Earth would be swept by a wave of terrorism (note - I came up with all this several YEARS before 9/11!). The struggle against terrorists, however, got out of hand, and a devastating global war broke out in 2020, claiming the lives of several hundred million people. Only in 2032 the arms would finally fall silent.
Humankind was on the bottom of a deep and dark abyss...and it was now that a sort of understanding, of consensus broke out unlike anything that had ever been. In the face of utter danger of disintegration, humankind united, and as one they went to rebuild Earth and shape a new society. With the years progressing, culture and science took a sharp rise, leading to new discoveries that would pave the way for humankind's way to the stars. In 2073, finally, the first interstellar vessel of humankind set out for its maiden voyage, marking the dawn of a new age for the human race. In 2076 then, humankind came in contact with the people of T'escirá, who would quickly become the firmest and closest ally of humankind in space.
But, as I already said, it was not only science that took a new rise - it was also culture. Post-WW3 human society was marked by a strong drive towards unification, and thus were made plans for a singular planet-wide federal state. This state was finally founded by international treaty in 2079, uniting humankind under the new banner of the United Earth.
Now comes another timejump into the 23rd century. Humankind has spread out to other worlds, forming one of the major interplanetary empires in existence during that time. Around 2250, however, it is again the people of Icashir who discover that the ancient threat of the T'ye'vás' is planning to return, in order to finish what they could not do in the First War of Liberation - to dominate all lie in the galaxy. Or at least, this is what the Icashirians pretend when they initiate the foundation of the Sha'zhayon' Iská...an amy independent from all governments with the paramount aim to combat the T'ye'vás'.
However, the Icashirians cannot (read: do not - but more about that later) prevent them from gaining a certain degree of influence on several nations of the galaxy...among which is humanity.
Now enters an officer of Earth's space fleet named Christopher Jefferson MacLean. Raised in Boston and trained as a starfighter pilot, he is part of a task force that intervenes in a crisis in one of United Earth's protectorates. During an evac mission which he and his squadron are to escort, MacLean shows such valour that the commander of the United Earth Forces, Adm. Nathan Fitzgerald Ellison, offers him the participation in the training programme for capital ship commanding officers. However, MacLean soon becomes aware that his commander did not make this offer out of pure gratitude. It turns out that Earth's President, Patrick Montogomery Fitzgerald himself, became aware of a subversive movement sneaking its way into Earth's administration and branching out rapidly. Unable to see any alternative, Fitzgerald asks his most strusted associates for support, secretly founding some sort of alliance against the mysterious conspiracy that is starting to poison the Earth government. As it is, Adm. Ellison, who is part of this alliance, asks MacLean and the staff of his recently assigned battleship "Intrepid" to support the President in this effort - to which they agree, though they all have a bad feeling about the matter.
However, about one year later the mysterious conspirators make their first strike, fabricating a case against Admiral llison, forcing him to resign from the UEF and replacing him with somebody loyal to their "cause". The situation deteriorates fairly quickly, but still the conspirators have no means to "attack" either MacLean (meanwhile a leading figure in the President's alliance) or the President himself.I might go on if you're interested ...

Yellowdog was the local train that ran between Erwin, TN and Dante, VA on CSX's Kingsport Sub (former Clinchfield). It was officially called F889/F888 (depending on direction) and was usually powered by 2 SD40-2s (my fav locos)even after we were swamped by AC44s. The train got it's name because, like a yellow dog marking it's territory", it made stops all along the railroad. Unfortunately, it was discontinued earlier this year. Clayton

I have had my name for close to 40 years. It comes from the nick name of a famous post war Greyhound Bus. The bus actually had several names, among them were Ironsides, Washboard, and Elephant Ears (for its two big mirrors).
Back in the mid 1960's, my fellow Bus Drivers noticed my "Sideburns" were starting to turn gray, so the name sort of fit. Silversides is also my CB handle.
And I am also 10/4 on the side!!Daniel Marra sr.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-28-02 AT 03:12 AM (EDT)

Pretty obvious. But, if you want me to elaborate...My Grandfather worked for the N&W in the 40's after returning from the war as a fireman. He ran the Class A's with 175-190 loaded coal hoppers from Portsmouth, OH to Columbus, OH as a regualar, everyday job.Secondly , I always tend to root for the underdog, which is how I've always seen N&W. They were just this little railroad that was tucked away down in the Appalachians, doing what they did, better than most, and more profitably than most, and safer than most. Kind of overlooked by most, in favor of the UP, AT&SF, B&O, NYC, C&O, PRR, etc... But they did many things so much better than some of these bigger roads. I'm sure everyone knows the story of how the N&W stock pretty much carried the PRR through The Great Depression of the 30's. Sold in the $100 range during that period. Highest priced stock during some points in history. And then, there's The Big Three; the A 2-6-6-4, the J 4-8-4, and the Y-6b 2-8-8-2. The best of the best. No other locos were used more efficiently. N&W operated these locos like diesels. Turned around in less than 45 minutes! And assigned to the correct trains based on need for speed (The J), or tractive effort(the Y-6b), or both(the A).Previous Topic | Next Topic – image 138
