If it makes you feel any better, I grew up in a place that had more than 2 straight months of temps above 100 degrees one year (every single day), and 112 in the shade was not uncommon. What was really fun was the old air conditioners used in the 40s and 50s were evaporative coolers, just wet mats with a fan to pull air through them. It turned hot air into hot humid air.

2 secs while I nip upstairs to my room....... about 28C (80F) and 41% humidity which is quite comfortable. Its nice to see some good weather here in Yor (England). Just as well I went up, my England flag had got caught in my window!Phil

LAST EDITED ON Jun-18-02 AT 01:18 PM (EDT)Well, the weather report just said thunderstorms should be expected tonight and tomorrow. I'd have no objections at all against that - nice as good weather is, once in a while some rain to clean the air is really a relief. This is especially true for people like me who are suffering from allergic rhinitis (hayfever) ...However, if this summer should remain that hot I might consider getting at least a ventilator .(Added) All those temperatures are still nothing against what some people we know once had to endure back in the 1970s. They were on vacation to Lanzarote (Canary Islands), and some time ago they told us that one day they had an incredible 122°F in the shadows and at least 162 in the sun ...! Now THAT must have been hellish!

Bob (above) must be from the place where I'm at now. It's 10AM
and close to 40C. No rain for months. Everything just bakes in the desert sun. The "swamp cooler" is still the most popular as it's cheaper than AC.

Outside temperature:85°F
Inside temperature(air conditioned):65°F Note: I keep my room on the cool side because I completely lost my tolerance for heat about 10 years ago when I helped a neighbor with his outdoor entertainment business. I remember being stuck outdoors in the sun on quite a few 100°F days, and needing to drink half a gallon of water just to keep from being dehydrated. If I had my way there would only be spring, winter, and fall.

Malmö, Sweden (20km/12mi from Copenhagen, Denmark), 2000 (8 PM) CET: an acceptable 25C/77F. But the temperature has been far higher earlier today. Clear skies, no rain in sight. School's out and the local beaches, above all Ribersborg which is a sandy beach in the center of the city, are full of kids. On an evening like this it's nice to go to the medieval Lilla Torg (Little Square) and have a meal and a couple of beers at one of the outdoor restaurants there.Malmö is a city of 260,000 ("greater Malmö" 520,000 including suburbs) situated on the Swedish side of Öresund, the narrow stretch of water between Sweden and Denmark. It's right across the water from Copenhagen, Denmark, connected by a bridge. By commuter train it takes less than 30 minutes from the Central Station in Malmö to Hovedbangården in Copenhagen, by way of Copenhagen Airport Kastrup. The Copenhagen/Malmö area, which covers both sides of the Öresund and includes the eastern parts of the Danish island of Zealand and the western parts of the Swedish province of Scania, has a total population of about 3 million and is one of the major growth zones within the European Union.
